i really liked this class. in fact, it was my fav class last quarter, made it almost easy to wake up at 8 (tho, not all the times). but prof chou is exactly what everyone else says. he's a really nice and friendly guy and always tries his best to answer any questions asked. on that same token tho, he gets off track a lot and usually winds on about something not relevant to the class. aside from that tho, i learned a lot and very much enjoyed this class. the tests are very straight forward. out of the notes, memorization and the essay questions are just regurgitating with a mix of thoughtful analysis. nothing too difficult, and he gives out extra credit to everyone who attended discussions at the end.

CHIN 185 Food and Love. Really interesting class. Did you know that "boba" refers to woman's breasts? I didn't, but apparently it does! lol. Easy going, caring, and funny professor. I was really entertained in this class. Highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about Chinese food and love culture. Exams strictly based on lectures, do don't be absent. Final requires you to write two 3 page essays (total 6 pages).

Chinese 187 Etymology and Calligraphy. Just took this class and I have to say that it wasn't easy, especially if you're unfamiliar with Chinese. Most of the students taking this class are native speakers, so be advised. His exams will require previous knowledge of Chinese, and you'll be expected to read, write, and look up these characters in a Chinese (no english or index) dictionary. Hence, if you've never taken a language course in Chinese, I think it'll be in you best interest to avoid this class and sign up for his other classes. Also, he has the tendency to submit grades late- beyond the administrative deadline. Other than that, he's a very personable and funny professor. His grading scheme is structured like the other courses he teaches: A midterm, final, and discussion (20%).
