This class is super easy and relatively interesting. Professor Holloway and the teaching team are super accommodating. I loved that we had guest lecturers almost every other class to discuss new topics and bring in a fresh perspective. The class basically covers the developmental psychology behind each life stage and how the social factors (race, class, gender, neighborhood, education, etc.) a person interacts with affect their development. Very chill, 10/10 would recommend.

LOVED THIS CLASS! Professor Holloway was one of the most accommodating professors I have ever come across. He was very lenient with deadlines and gave us tons of extra credit opportunities, he even made one of the exam set optional to help us during the quarter. I strongly recommend this class!

I loved everything about this class. Professor Holloway was so understanding of our situations due to COVID-19, and he made sure we had enough time for all of our major assignments. I also thoroughly enjoyed learning about child development as it relates to the social environment. 10/10 would recommend!

This class was very interesting if you care about social justice issues! Honestly, lectures are really not necessary to watch but he is a really great teacher so I recommend going just to listen to him! There were two papers in the quarter, but if you did well on the first one you didn't need to do the second one. There is also a final paper which is mandatory. Really interesting paper topics. You draw on reading material and documentaries to write the papers. The participation points are calculated based on how many discussion sections you attend (you get one free pass). You can also do up to 5 points of easy extra credit assignments! Grading break down is 10% reflection questions on reading material (very easy), 10% participation in office hours, 20% first paper, 25% second paper, 35% final paper. Didn't need to buy any books as he posted all the required readings. I highly recommend this class!

I LOVED this class! The class was asynchronous although the professor held live lectures. There were also TA "guest lectures." The professor and teaching team was extremely accommodating during COVID-19. We only had four required assignments total over the entire quarter: two reflection question assignments (2 pages each, double spaced), one essay, an optional essay which we didn't have to do if we scored well on the first one, and a final exam (essay). There was plenty of time to complete each assignment and the TAs graded very fairly. I also really enjoyed the material! Learning about human development is super interesting to me and we focused a lot on Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory. Both the first essay prompt and final exam prompt related to this theory, so you got familiar with the concepts and learned them very well. I also found that the reading, although somewhat dense, was very applicable to real life and relevant. Thank you so much for a great class!

OMG I love Prof Holloway and my TA Sara Wilf!!!!! Basically bc this course was supposed to be asynchronous, I chose another course that had a complete time conflict with this class. But this class turned out to be having live zoom meetings and the prof would post the recordings on ccle. I didn't attend ANY of this class's zoom meeting since the other class I was taking involved in-class participations. I BARELY watched the recordings afterwards (basically I only watched the intro video of the class throughout the quarter). The exams are all take-home, with two exam sets and one final paper. You can actually carry your exam 1 score to exam 2 if you think your exam 1 score is good enough, which makes this course even easier. I have talked to Prof Holloway once during our phone call office hour (yes, he likes to arrange office hours via phone calls), and his voice is just so curing (sorry but his voice is indeed very attractive), and his daughter as well. I switched my discussion from Madonna's to Sara's, and huge shout out to Sara! All the faculties were amazing, giving us extremely flexible options and extensions, and the discussion is also extremely engaging.

Stan Professor Holloway for clear skin. He is such an amazing professor and person. His lectures were really engaging and he highly encouraged participation. He offers 10 points of extra credit which is so amazing and the extra credit is basically doing things to become more educated (ie. volunteering on Skid Row or watching When They See Us). The textbook is not necessary at all. If you're taking this class, you're definitely in for a treat!

This class was extremely interesting and connecting psychology to policy in ways I never really considered! The Prof and all the TAs were amazing. There is a lot of writing for this class, but a lot of it is reflection-based so it's very easy to get things done quickly. Highly, highly recommend the class!
