Originally, I was not going to write this review because I felt like the only one who experienced these problems. But, after seeing another student share similar concerns, I'd like to also share my opinion. It was almost impossible to contact this professor. He originally said he would not give his email out because he checked CampusWire more often, which is completely acceptable, except there were multiple occasions where he did not log onto CampusWire for 4+ days straight in a 6 week Summer Session (you can check when someone last logged on via DMs). When he did log on to CampusWire, he often only upvoted student responses instead of actually answering the questions themselves, even when some questions were left unanswered for 3+ days. Additionally, he made multiple mistakes on his first midterm and instead of acknowledging them, he just wrote on the answer key that one answer was "more correct" than his incorrect answer (even though there was only one actually correct answer). Students won't bother checking answers they already got right when reviewing the answer key, so many students were left making the same mistake on the Midterm II and Final Exam (I could tell because one of the review questions another student made for future exams was similar in concept and I had to explain it to fellow confused students). Despite this, as long as you take this class with a friend so you can ask questions to them, this class is an easy A.

Ok, let me start and say this class was REALLY easy. Doing the prep material he gave is sufficient and the concepts are not really that difficult to begin with. However, this man does not communicate well with his students. He doesn't give us his email and instead uses campuswire, which he frequents about every 5 days. Many times people send him a DM and he doesn't respond. Additionally, sometimes he gives additional questions and does not provide the answer to them, leaving students arguing with each other as to what is right. On the first midterm, he made a mistake on one the calculations, and while he gave credit to both the wrong and right answer, he never said in class that the questions answer that he initially accepted was wrong. So, many students kept using this incorrect methodology to solving the question which could have been so easily prevented if he just announced he made a mistake and told students how to do that question the right way. You should definitely take this class especially if you did well in 7B, but be warned that if you tend to communicate frequently with the professor, that isn't happening.

Maloy was a great professor! He was understanding of the needs of students and kept his lectures very informative and engaging.

He structured the midterms and final to be first done by yourself and then second done with a group and then averaged those two scores which was really nice.

Overall would very much recommend taking it with him.

I had Professor Maloy for 2 classes and in both courses, he clearly showed interest in helping students learn beyond the material. He held office hours where lecture content was not allowed to be brought up, it was strictly for asking him questions about careers, his experience, etc. Besides his thoughtfulness, he is also a great professor! The tests were fair and the workload was manageable.

107 was by far the easiest science class I've taken at UCLA. Material is incredibly straightforward even without remote learning, and exams had this group phase portion which made grading really chill. This class should not be 5 units. Maybe they do that to standardize LS 107 with the 7 series, but it's more of a 3 or 4 unit class at most. Minus three or so concepts in the middle of the quarter, I didn't really learn anything new. The only thing that took up time was pre-class videos, and you can play them at 2x speed.

Highly recommend taking genetics with prof. Maloy! Everything is extremely clear and the exams are very doable. Pay attention in class and the pre-class quizzes, then you'll ace it. A great upper elective!
