Professor Juvonen is an extremely helpful professor. Psych 133A was probably one of my favorite classes I've taken thus far at UCLA (I'm a senior) and I think it's because of her, and her obvious passion for adolescent development that made this class so enjoying for me. With that being said, however, the exams in this class are tricky. I didn't like the format of the class with the blanks, although I never had a problem with getting them. It made things stressful and made me feel like I couldn't pay attention in class, and instead had to constantly be writing things down, or watch to write things down. Also, I took this class with 100B which was a big mistake. It made things even more stressful. I had my midterm for 100B the day before 133A which definitely affected my grade. Make sure you don't make your workload too heavy because with this class you may need to go back to lectures and relisten, and you have to pay careful attention to the readings as well. All in all, I really enjoyed this class - but if you're looking for an easy "column B class" this isn't that. You're going to have to put in more effort and time for it.

I loved this class because of the content, not so much the professor. The weekly articles were long, but I actually enjoyed reading them because I was so interested in the topic. If I'd studied a little harder for the final I probably would've gotten an A. You actually have to go to class because clickers and the slides she posts on CCLE are missing key words that she gives you in lecture.

There is no textbook for this class but she uploads articles every week to CCLE that you must read because some will be on the test (but she usually lectures on it anyways). You MUST go to class because she uses a clicker and the slides she posts have important blanks in it that you will only fill in while she is lecturing (sneaky of her). I hated that she would always want us to turn to the people sitting next to us and discuss a question she gave us, but some might like that. The grading is only on the 2 exams (midterm 40% and final 60%). She gives a really good study guide before the exams though. If you study all the lectures, readings, and fill out the study guide you should do fine.

This is not general adolescence psychology, I was expecting knowledge to be more universal, but this is sort of only American adolescence psychology (well I'm not sure if that is a problem, but since the ethnicity in class is so diverse I would like to point that out). She isn't good at timing lecture as she always rushes through the last 10% of slides, since lecture time is up. She would post lecture slides on class website, but these slides have missing keywords (or even a whole slide in some cases) - this was not a problem if she timed the lecture well. As a personal opinion. her exams focus on unimportant parts of the course rather than challenging our understanding of concepts. In addition, I do not like her teaching strategies that she often gives answer to vague question implicitly, and that leads to a much harder time in taking notes especially when the slides given were incomplete and time was short. Do not take this class unless you want to mess with your GPA. Those review saying this class being interactive are, well, right, but that just add burden on top of her poor time management.

She is actually one of the HARDEST AND RUDEST professors I've ever had in my entire undergraduate career. I'm a straight A student and I work pretty hard! She made the class so hard and she was Rude. I was very disappointed!

She is one of the best professor I encountered in UCLA. You can tell that she is very caring and wants the students to achieve better academic performance.
The course is very stimulating and interesting. Although I am not a psyc major, the course is still very interesting to me.
Highly recommend UCLA students to take it

She is a great professor! He lectures are interactive and make you think. She also manages to motivate and inspire you and make you interested in the course material. Her exams seem tricky, but if you know the material really well, it actually becomes quite straight forward. And yes, you have to do the readings, some exam questions are from there.

Overall, if adolescent development interests you and you really want to learn more about it, take this class. It really is a great class.

Juvonen is a great professor. She is very passionate about her work and studies. She teaches with enthusiasm. However, to get an A in this class you will have to study hard. She included some questions on the final and midterm from the readings, so yes you have to do them (they are typically about 15 pages long for each lecture). She also uses a clicker in her class. Overall, if you just attend lectures you will get a B. But if you want that A, it will take work!

She is a great and nice professor. BUT I have to tell you that she is tricky. She offers optional paper for students. However, it 80% of the time ends up lower your grade if you do it... Also, the final exam is tricky and long (about 70MCs). If you decide to take the class, make sure you DO WELL in the FINAL.
