Professor Foster is legitimately one of the best teachers I have ever had at UCLA, and I'm a senior. While the course gets more challenging towards the end of the quarter and the homeworks require ample time to complete, the class is interesting and the professor is funny and dorky and amazing. He is very clear and if you need help with anything, his office hours are SUPER helpful, as can be the TA's. He adjusted office hours to be like 3 times a week so that students with conflicts could go... so sweet of him. I have yet to meet a teacher with as much concern and appreciation for his students as Jacob Foster. Also, he uses memes in his slides. It's adorable and keeps lecture interesting. Try sitting in the front (I didn't and sometimes got distracted and missed big concepts). Be sure to do work with a study group (he allows you to work with 4 other people on homeworks!) OVER ALL, love this class. If you're a soc major and need it to graduate, take it with him :)

Quarter: Fall 2016
Grade: A

So let's start off by stating that I am NOT into math, so I definitely do not enjoy it (let alone any course in the subject).
So for me a lot of the material covered, I couldn't understand in lecture but with enough practice and hardwork, earned an A in the course.
If you're like me, then you'll really need to apply yourself in order to understand the material (that's what it's there for).
I recommend working in groups as previously mentioned. The course consists of:
4 different homeworks:45% of your grade.
Discussion: 10%
A midterm: 15%
and a final: 30%
The tests are fair, be sure to STUDY OFF OF THE HOMEWORK, and definitely buy the book. I can't stress this enough. Be prepared to put time aside to really be thorough on the homework, as the TA's are pretty picky.
What's great about this course is that if you slack off, your grade will show it but then again if you're no math whiz, but you study HARD, you can still earn an A.
Good luck!!
