Spring 2019 - Janna is one of my favorite professors at UCLA. For this class, there are no midterms or finals, just 2 short papers and one longer final paper. She also lets you revise them and have them be regraded if you aren't happy about the grade. Most people get A's. Attendance is required and the class is super interactive so it challenges you to put yourself out there a bit. The class does require 3 field visits which can be challenging to find time but you'll learn a lot about different communities and education in the US.

WAC 103: Prof had an odd requirement of doing community service. She made it difficult because she forbade students from doing it with a UCLA organization. This requirement favored the students with access to cars. Bus riders know that everywhere in LA takes an hour. Professor was totally clueless of her own social class bias. Class time was wasted. She made students get into groups and come up to the front of the class and paraphrase the reading. I don't need anyone to spoon feed the reading to me. Frankly, for a student who has to support her family, requiring her to work for no pay is like slavery. Whenever she does not force students to come up and paraphrase the reading, she'll just deliver a boring, useless monologue.
