Fall 2020 - FOR PSYCH 119Y: Dr. Wong is one of the nicest professors I've had, and presents his lecture topics clearly where he can keep your attention for most of the lecture (sometimes can seem really long, ~75 min). His tests are fair, testing on mostly lecture material with corresponding material from the book. He holds office hours regularly after the lecture where you can ask about course material or even just have a nice conversation, and has introduced me to a topic that you probably have not taken at UCLA before. Highly recommend taking him for this class, easy upper div for psychobio!

Winter 2018 - Great professor for 116. This class is naturally a lot of work and the concepts can require a lot of memorization, but he communicates everything very clearly and effectively. The class is split into three modules: neuroanatomy, Swimmy (neuronal circuits), and visual neuroscience. Neuroanatomy was definitely the hardest and required solid understanding and identification of every brain structure. The other two modules are pretty easy and are graded on lab write-ups. Overall, highly recommend taking 116 with Wong.

Spring 2021 - Let me be clear, this class is tough. You need to know the material inside out and study with other people to do well. The content is interesting and engaging, so it feels like it would be an easy class but the tests are often tricky. There are 3 tests, 30 questions each, that are 80% of your grade, and 10 quizzes, that are 20% of your grade. The quizzes are hugely helpful bc they are due the week after the content is learned, and you get full credit if you get 5/10. The lowest grade is dropped as well. The tests are tough, if you miss a few questions, you're in the B range. There is EC as well, 2% on top. That said, Dr. Wong is AMAZING! So knowledgeable about many topics, and I believe he designed the course himself so this is something he is passionate about.

Fall 2018 - Professor Wong lectures way too fast. He lectures on 2x speed. It was often hard to understand what he was trying to say. He is aware and told many times that his lectures are very unclear but still speeds through lecture slides. Exams were worded weirdly and tested on very small details from the slides. Memorize and learn the slides very well and you will be fine. Don't need the textbook. I depended on the TA for a lot of my understanding of the material.
