DUDE THIS IS LITERALLY THE BEST PHYSICS PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD.
The curving is nice and doesn't feel like I'm competing with the rest of the people in my class.
The HW is relevant: that is, it actually helps prepare you for tests. I haven't taken the final yet, but the midterms are based off of what you've learned in lecture or by doing the HW, instead of remembering some obscure detail to solve an equation (e.g. in some of the harder classes in the Physics department). He's not condescending like other professors, is clear, and ultimately loves and cares for the learning of his students.
If you can, take him if you want to learn!
Hauser is a terrific teacher. He makes the most complicated subjects clear and easy to understand. I've never had a class with as few skipped lectures. On top of that, he jokes often. His class is a little easier than average, due to his generous curving (80% always is an A). Highly recommended.
Take this professor! He is by far one of the best profs out there (especially for the 1 series). He is intelligent without being snooty, which means you will end up learning a lot because he really wants to help you along, not because he is on some ego trip to show off how much he knows. In fact, Hauser is very humble-like and endearing. Found myself going to class and making an effort to learn (unheard of for a physics class, previous to this one) because I just didn't want to disappoint him. Can you believe that? This guy is really awesome. Definitely take a class with him if you have a chance to.
Professor Hauser was an amazing teacher. If you are looking for a boring teacher who merely puts up slides out of the book or one that does an hour long trivial derivation, do not take his class. His class is for those students who will do the course reading on their own, and who wish to participate more in a discussion of course topics and their applications. He really believes in helping students understand the topics more heavily than he does in giving difficult tests, and I would definitely take one of his classes again, if given the chance.
Prof. Hauser exerts minimal effort into teaching and tries to get by the quarter with excessive demos and videos. Though they may be amusing or cute, that doesn't cut it for the physical science major that really must know the material for succeeding courses. He doesn't derive any equations and his presentation of material (the minimal amount that he does) is lousy and incoherent. The midterm and final exam were a joke, just simple plug and chug questions w/o invoking an ounce of critical thinking. He's an easy A, but if conceptual understanding of the fundamentals is what matters (or necessary) to you, take Coroniti. On the otherhand, he's a very friendly and approachable person.
Professor Hauser is without a doubt one of the best professors I have ever had at UCLA. I had him for physics 1c in winter 2002 and he made the class by far my best physics class also. He is excellent at explanations, has a demonstration almost every day (which greatly helps the understanding of the material), is funny and gives great lectures and background to the material being studied. I would definitely recommend him to anyone. He is also very nice to meet during office hours. This past quarter, he even had office hours from 4-6pm on Friday, which was perfect for a busy student like me who is busy with classes. Take his class if you're taking physics or go sit in on a lecture if you have an interest in the subject.
