Fall 2016 - While I really enjoyed the first half of this course taught by Professor Nordby, I disliked the second half taught by Professor Jay. Jay undoubtedly is an expert in her field and has done a lot of interesting research on the topics she discussed, but her lectures often did not represent her knowledge. She always appeared very scatterbrained and relatively unorganized, and did not construct slides and presentations that would be beneficial to students' learning. I found her lecture style too fast-paced, as she often skimmed over vital material, and her slides usually consisted of large block quotations from readings and other researchers' studies. She did attempt to occasionally make the lectures more interesting by including interactive class-participation and experiments, but these often felt unnecessary. Overall, it was difficult to ascertain what I actually was supposed to have learned in her part of the course when it came time to study for the final, and the materials she provided to students were not extremely helpful. Professor Jay is a sweet, bubbly professor, but she did not really effectively "teach" the course.

Winter 2021 - If you took M1A, definitely continue with M1B. I recommend this class to any non-environmental majors who are interested in the environment because it is a great way to knock out science GEs and it is pretty interesting. What I liked most about this class was that all professors were extremely accommodating during covid and made each student feel like they mattered. This cluster felt like a real community :) Professor Jennifer taught the class for the first half of the quarter, and Professor Shanna taught it for the second. Both were more confusing and the topics were more complicated than M1A, but overall still pretty easy.

Winter 2022 - Jenny obviously cared a lot about her work and was very knowledgeable about the course material. But she was often very unorganized. She was a little bit hard to follow sometimes and would lose my and other students' attention as a result sometimes. On the other hand, her in-person displays were very engaging. I loved the display of the Earth and ocean acidification. For the most part, in person lectures were more engaging and online lectures were difficult. I would take this class again and my other professor was great. Easy. Wish it has all been in person.
