Fact: No one likes iclicker questions. BUT they are so helpful for the final and midterm!

The readings were short and relevant. I love professor Collett!!! I was literally 0.02 away from an A- but the fact that I enjoyed the class doesn't matter highly recommended

By far one of the greatest professors I have encountered at UCLA. Her lectures are very engaging and the material is very interesting.

Professor Collett gives great lectures, and she’s very well prepared and organized. The book comes in handy in this class and if you do all the readings, you’ll be fine on the midterm and final. One thing I’ll say, is that she’s not the most helpful teacher and she can be kind of intimidating to approach. When Ibhad the experience to speak to her one on one a couple times, she she was pretty rude and I felt rushed, and I know other students who also felt the same way. I still think the class is worth taking because it’s really interesting and her lectures are good but if you need to speak with someone about the material, it’s probably better to consult with your TA because she doesn’t really try to help and she can be really condescending when you ask her questions.

Dr. Collett and her TA's: super helpful, extremely engaging, and the readings are just so relevant. Yes, there is a textbook in this class, but if I had the money, I would honestly buy it. It is so interesting to see how the social construction of one's self operates in society under different theories and views. All these theories intertwine with each other and it can become addicting if you start to analyze life under a sociological lens! Reminds me why I wanted to study Sociology in the first place! Dr. Collett does a phenomenal job paralleling the concepts learned in class to everyday life. Sometimes the way she can describe a concept can get confusing since she is trying to put it on simple terms for us. Remember to be a good student and ask questions whenever this happens!

To do well in the class, you have to actively engage with the readings! This is important on many different levels because you have clicker quizzes, and the midterm & final will ask how readings assigned with certain sections of the class correlate with each other. Probably sounds like a no brainer, but remember to read and take good notes of the readings. You can use your notes for the clicker quizzes, and it will help when you start to review for the midterm and final. Although the content, methodology, and the discussion of the readings of a certain day are important, knowing why the readings are assigned to each other for that day of lecture are so important - big time for the midterm and final!

The last thing I have to say about Dr. Collett is that she genuinely cares about her students' success in her class. She makes sure if her students have a general understanding of what is being asked in her quizzes. If something she asks is not explicit enough, she might drop the question. She highly encourages going to her office hours in case something is not clear.

Take her class! You will not regret it!
