I really loved his slides and how he broke down each concept into really digestible pieces. Sometimes the readings that were assigned were dense and hard to understand, but after his lectures were super clear and helped a lot. Took this class during Spring 2020 online amidst social turmoil and Professor Sigmon was really understanding about everything. Definitely would recommend him and TA Justin Breck!

This class was super interesting. The readings were a little boring at first but they get far more interesting as the quarter goes on. We have to do a weekly journal based on the readings but they are fairly short. You must buy the books though!! Professor Sigmon is super nice and pretty engaging but he can be a little boring since he does not use a mic and his class was late in the day. He gave us study guides for the midterm and final which were extremely helpful. There is also a term paper due at the end of the quarter but you choose your own topic so it is fairly interesting. Overall, I would recommend this class with Professor Sigmon. I am also selling hard copies of the following books for this class: The Meaning of Sociology (9th edition), Mapping the Social Landscape (7th edition), and Readings for Sociology (9th edition). Text me at (909)725-7338 for prices!!

as someone who loves sociology, this class was easy to enjoy. even if you don't, it's a solid class. if you're taking the exams in person, you just gotta be prepared for open-ended questions. study with quizlet and you'll be set. can't think of a reason not to take it :)
Professor Sigmon was amazing! His class was engaging. Even with Covid-19, he continued to make his lectures similar to in-person as much as he could.
100% recommend taking this class at some point during your time at UCLA. If you are pre-med this class will help you for the behavioral sciences section of the MCAT. There were a lot of concept overlaps. Sigmon was a very cool professor. Although lecture would sometimes drag I really enjoyed the topics taught in class and the case studies he chose for us to look over. There is 1 mid term and a final paper as well as a final exam. I took this class online and I thought he adapted very well to the new circumstances. If you are also just looking for a light load GE class with interesting concepts I would recommend this class. As long as you read the weekly readings he gives you'll do great in the class.
Professor Sigmon is a great lecturer and his slides are interesting. Since this quarter is online, he pre-records all of his lectures and posts them on CCLE before the "actual meeting time." Normally, this class would require some memorization, but he kindly made his tests open book (also because of online learning). The only downsides are the mandatory discussions and the workload (for a GE) since we have to read at least 6 articles every week and submit a 400-500 word reflection. However, if the students are willing to put in the work there's noway that anyone would get grades below an A. Overall, this is a great class and people would enjoy it a lot.
Professor Sigmon did a great job under difficult circumstances. Amidst the transition to online learning, Sigmon's lectures were still engaging and interesting. Under high duress, student concerns were heard and addressed, and the class was run in an organized manner. Additionally, my TA Justin Breck was great.
Def recommend Sigmon! I learned a lot and didn't have to stress out. The class focuses a lot on his slides, which he posts online every week and are pretty basic/clear to follow. He makes it really easy to study for exams by providing these slides and a study guide. Def knows his stuff and is pretty chill. Just don't walk out of class early cause he will make fun of you for it once you leave the room lol
