I took English 174A as American Fiction from 1900-1945, and this was honestly my favorite class at UCLA! I don't know why there are so many mixed reviews on Dimuro, but he's actually my favorite English professor I've had so far. Don't get me wrong though, the class is tough-- he really challenges you to think beyond your limits. There were some times in lecture where I honestly didn't know how to answer some questions, but that's why I love this professor: because he actually makes you think and really push yourself. Dimuro is extremely helpful as well-- he even offered an extra office hour to help me with his paper the next day-- and if you put in the effort and make sure to visit his office hours, you'll do fine in the class.
