Jukka is awesome. I had a hard time in this class because I suck at math and it is a LOT of work and a LOT of math. His office hours are always packed but he is still super helpful. His lectures are fun and he is a total character, you will learn a lot in this class. I had a hard time because I got a concussion midquarter, however, Jukka offered me an incomplete in the class so that I could study more for the final and not stress during the quarter. Seriously such a sweet professor and super accommodating. The class itself is a lot of work, as could be expected in an LS course, but that's not his fault and he really does a great job of making the content fun and interesting. All my homies take LS30 classes with Jukka, be like my homies, you'll be glad you if you take this with him too.
I felt that this may have been some of the most meaningful math I had ever learned. On top of that, Jukka is one of the best professors on campus, and he genuinely cares about how his students do. You have to work hard in this class, but he is quite understanding of different situations. He is also quite funny! If you are going to take LS30B, make sure to take it with Jukka.
LS30A with Jukka was a great experience. He cracks jokes in class and is a very chill professor overall. The workload is okay, although sometimes the homework can get a little tedious but it's still very doable.
My TA was Hannah, and she was AMAZING!! She's a new TA this year but she's so nice and understanding and super helpful for all lab and class related things. She's also just a really fun person to talk to! If you get Hannah as your TA you will love this class 100%.
You've probably already heard many great things about Jukka. He is a legend. periodt.
You've probably already heard many great things about Jukka. But my favorite thing about this class is his suggestion box on CCLE. You will probably never find another professor who cares as deeply about their students' feedback as Jukka does. He is a legend. Periodt.
This was hands down the best possible professor I could have gotten for my first quarter at UCLA. Not only was he funny, engaging, kind, and understanding, the material he taught was also interesting! The class itself requires a fair amount of work, but a lot of it is easy if you just put in the time to understand what is going on. More than that, if you feel like you need more help, or aren't happy with your grades, Jukka is more than willing to talk to you about it and work with your needs. Overall I would recommend that anyone take this class and see for yourself how awesome Jukka is.
THIS PROFESSOR is a legend to say the least. Not only does he put in an insane amount of time for his office hours, social hours, and midterm/final review sessions but he is also willing to schedule 1 on 1 appointments with his students to really help them succeed. His lectures are super entertaining (especially with his own helpers: Flippy and Puffers) with engaging participation quizzes that really help you grasp the material. Learning how to code may be a little challenging at times, but it really pays off and really satisfying once you get a hang of it. Although there is a bit of homework, it is all reasonable and really helps you grasp the concepts of the course. His midterm and final are split in 3 sections: study guide, test, and group test. This is super helpful for those who might not be the best test-takers and allows you a second chance if you do bomb the test. Last but not least, this man drives a Porsche 911 and has two PhDs.
Jukka is the absolute goat. He tests us on exactly what he teaches, which is how it should be. He gives ample extra credit and is lenient on extensions which reduced my stress a lot throughout the quarter. He made taking this class over Zoom fun and I absolutely loved this class. He structures the midterms and final in a way where he prizes learning over cramming for a letter grade and this helped my understanding so much. For my coding section, Zach was my TA and he was amazing, super funny and nice. All in all, 11/10 experience please take this class!
Jukka is a super passionate, knowledgable, and accommodating professor. Math is my worst subject but I was able to do pretty decent in the class. There are 2 tests (midterm and final) but they're both pretty easy. By just going over his powerpoint slides and review materials I was able to get an A+ on both tests. The only parts I didn't enjoy about the class were the labs (I hate coding) but thankfully the graders are pretty lenient and the TAs/LAs are always willing to help. Trust me when I say everyone loves Jukka!! Make sure to take this class with him if possible.
Professor Jukka is the GOAT. He's so generous. Obviously, you're here to find out how you can do well on the midterms and final, right? My suggestion is to just practice the practice midterms/finals that he gives. Be diligent and do homework, because test questions can also be taken from the Further Exercises sections on the homework, so they do genuinely prepare you for the large assessments. Ultimately, just have fun and relax. Don't stress out too much - rest assured that Jukka isn't just one of the good ones, he's one of the great ones. It's not every quarter you get a professor like Jukka.
