Firstly Jukka (yes we call him by his first name) is an incredibly enthusiastic professor that is eager to help his students excel. His explanations are very thorough and he truly has a grip on what parts of the course material are difficult and spends extra time on them. However, the course material is not interesting by any means, but if you can make yourself focus it becomes relatively easy to understand. The concepts are a bit abstract, but Jukka typically phrases it in a way that makes sense. I recommend reading the textbook as you complete your homework because the textbook is helpful and actually rather readable for a book about math. Overall, Jukka is a great professor who makes the LS30 series slightly more enjoyable than it otherwise would be.
I am not a math person. I did good anyways, and would have done better if I hadn't just stopped paying attention after the midterm. That was entirely a me problem. Jukka is a god among professors and has an amazing grading scheme and also I would trust him with my life. Definitely do the homework and the practice exam questions and make sure you actually understand them and double check your work. You should be okay,
This is a great class with an amazing professor. I can't recommend Jukka enough. He is very kind, interesting, smart, and warm. He makes the class so good. In order to do well in this class, just do all the assignments on time, go to all the office hours (it's best to do weekly quizzes after office hours to make sure you understand the questions and answers), and study a lot. It's a substantial amount of work, but this is a fascinating class with one of the best professors ever.
You've probably already heard many great things about Jukka. But my favorite thing about this class is his suggestion box on CCLE. You will probably never find another professor who cares as deeply about their students' feedback as Jukka does. He is a legend. Periodt.
I felt that this may have been some of the most meaningful math I had ever learned. On top of that, Jukka is one of the best professors on campus, and he genuinely cares about how his students do. You have to work hard in this class, but he is quite understanding of different situations. He is also quite funny! If you are going to take LS30B, make sure to take it with Jukka.
Keranen is the best! He truly cares a lot about his students and gives out study guides before the midterm and final, which help a lot in knowing what kind of problems or concepts will be predominant on them. The grade distribution is: 5% Clicker, 13% Homework, 12% Labs, either 25% Midterm and 45% Final or 15% Midterm and 55% Final (whichever is more advantageous towards you). Even though the content may not seem easy, Keranen makes it easier to understand even the most abstract of concepts. Not to mention, he always says funny little things during lecture, which make it fun to go to, and helps make lectures seem to go faster. I would love to take this class again and I hope you all get the chance to take this wonderful class with JUKKA!
