Quarter: Winter 2017
Grade: A

I LOVE HER! She is so straightforward. She uses a single course reader and that is basically all you need to know. Definitely practice the questions she assigns from the textbook because they will help you understand the concept better. But know the course reader from start to end. Her questions are also like the ones she discusses in class from the course reader. The big journal entry project seems like a pain in the a** but I promise you, you will learn so much about the topics because of that. Go to the TA to discuss about that homework because it is indirectly prepping you for the tests. And yes, her tests are long so make sure you practice questions so that you increase your speed.

Quarter: Fall 2018
Grade: A
Jan. 8, 2019

Professor Gardner talks relatively fast so it does take some adjusting to in the beginning. She also comes late to class often so the only time you really need to worry about being on time is on the day the assignments are due as she collects them beginning of the class. There are a total of five assignments in this class. They are graded pretty fairly but are not of much help for the midterms/finals. I wasn't able to finish the last problem on the midterm but still got a B due to the curve. I finished the final with a C+, but still got an overall A in the class. So this class is definitely doable as long as you go over the course reader and understand/remember what Gardner says in lecture. If interested, I am selling the course readers for the class and the pdf of the Financial and Managerial Accounting 7th Edition by John J Wild for $50. Price is negotiable. Professor Gardner is always full of energy and trying to make her lecture as fun and engaging as possible. She often slipped into annoying territory but I definitely appreciated her effort and enthusiasm. Her course reader is a mess and very overpriced, but the textbook is extremely helpful.

One consistent complaint is that her tests were *way* too long. There was a massive time-crunch for both the midterm and final, but I felt that aside from that she tested very fairly. Exam questions were extremely similar to exercises in the course reader and textbook. She also assigned several individual and group projects throughout the quarter. They tended to be very time consuming but I felt that what I learned from them was extremely helpful or at the very least interesting.

I would recommend her over Ravetch in a heartbeat. Avoid him at all costs - he is a monster on a rampage and must be stopped.

She is a good lecturer but not a good professor. Her lectures are engaging and clear. However, she comes late to class every lecture, and she doesn’t pay much attention to her students. The materials are hard and you need to put enough effort into the class to get an A’s. I’d recommend this professor if mgmt 1A is your major requirement, because you can learn a lot from her lectures, despite her “lack of professionalism.”

Some people liked Gardner, but out of all the classes I've taken at UCLA, she was definitely the professor I hated the most.

I love Gardener! But man she doesn’t mess around. Her tests are near impossible if you don’t put in serious time. But once you do. They’re pretty easy. It’s just a matter if you can finish the test in the time allotted.
