Professor Zackey is the man. He is the best professor I've had at UCLA so far. I didn't take geography 2 with him, but I had to put it sinc there was no option for the class I took. I had his GE Seminar for the environment cluster and loved it. He made the material very interesting and was always concerned with student learning. He is very approachable and easy to talk to. I highly recommend taking any of class he teaches!

Zackey is such a great professor! I definitely recommend him! He is not only crystal clear about the material, he actually makes it interesting in so many ways. I went into this class thinking it was going to be one boring science class, and I was completely mistaken! His class made me thinking about our global environment for so many different reasons. His tests are not hard at all, as long as you listened and took notes during class. He's also really nice, friendly, funny and curves the class in the end. ( even though his tests aren't hard) I took him winter 2010 and I'm gonna take him again this summer, for geography 2 - that's how much I enjoyed his class!

Take one of his classes. Take one if you're a geographer. Take one if you're not. Take one for a GE. Take one if you're done with GEs. Just take one! Professor Zackey is a genuine, friendly professor. He's the kind of teacher that every college kid hopes in meeting... even if only for a recommendation! But seriously, taking a class with him is one of the most valuable things you can do in your time at UCLA. Sure, you learn about the environment, or biogeography, or development issues, but the real lesson is in thinking. I knew how to think critically before taking the two classes I've taken with Zackey, but he'll teach you how to apply that skill to real-world problems and dialogues. If you feel like you've thought critically about everything, you'll probably be proven wrong (but in the nicest way possible!) Overall, he's a great professor, his classes and assessments are easy (my apologies to him if he reads this haha, but they are!), you can knock out a GE or two and you can learn a lot in the process. I would certainly take his classes in the future and (obviously) recommend them. Believe the BruinWalk reviews! He really does a great job.

Zackey is the man. He is very interested in topics and makes sure to keep things relevant in lecture. He also really wants students to know the stuff, more importantly the stuff which will be tested on. He's available to talk and is very approachable. The guy's great and if you ever get a chance, take one of his classes.

I would highly recommend taking a class with Professor Zackey. I took two of his classes for my minor, Geography 5 and Geography M128, and both classes were awesome! He is definitely one of those professors you'll remember years later after graduating from UCLA. He is always willing to answer questions and is very helpful in preparing his students for exams. His midterms and finals are both fair; the exam question can usually be answered in short paragraphs. He is a great professor who is passionate about his work and that is truly inspiring!

Winter 2020 - Dr. Zackey is not able to teach courses that often at UCLA because of his work in China, but if you have the opportunity to take his course you need to. His understanding of China is incredible and by the end of the course, I truly had a deeper understanding of China as a whole. Overall is lectures are very engaging and informative. His tests are very hard but he gives a boost at the end of the quarter. I got an 81 on the midterm and an A in the class, but this is the one class at UCLA so far where I am more stoked with what I learned. Go to class and you will learn and be happy about it.

Course Taken: Environmental Science Cluster Seminar (M1C) I thought Zackey was one of the most caring, genuine professors I've had while at UCLA. He actually is interested in his students well-being and takes the time to get to know everyone on a personal level. His class is relatively straight forward. Every week he assigns readings, which do take a significant amount of time to complete (and some weeks readings are boring while others are incredibly interesting) and from these readings you must write a 2-3 pg review. The final consists of a take home final/essay which is just 4 pretty open ended questions reviewing material from the course. Zackey makes this class interesting and enjoyable.
