Professor K was awesome. I loved going to her class! The only complain I had was her tests were ridiculously difficult. She’s one of those teachers that makes really tricky questions and its either you know it or you dont. Honestly I dont even know how I got a B- in her class. I loved her but I would not take her again, just the thought of taking her tests scare me. Everything else was super easy though, two essays, two discussion board questions, and one group presentation. She also randomly takes roll in class by telling you to get in a group and turn something in, so if you dont go to class, I do not recommend this class. Gives extra credit and curves exams.
Professor K is one of my favorite professors at UCLA. I took her gender class last quarter and loved it (and her) so much that I signed up for this class specifically because she was teaching it. I wasn't disappointed- Professor K was just as insightful and engaging for this class as she was in her gender class. Even though the material can be dense and sometimes dry, Professor K does a wonderful job of explaining it and making it more interesting, exciting, and relevant. She's also great at facilitating class discussions- even if you're not one to participate in them, you'll learn a lot from your peers. The midterm and final are all multiple choice and straightforward so long as you've gone to class and done the readings, and the papers are short and manageable as well. If you have to choose between this and her gender class, I'd definitely recommend the gender one, but this is still a pretty good option, if only because Professor K. is such an amazing professor!
Going into this class, I did not know what to expect. Now that I finished the quarter and looking back to the material, it was interesting content. Throughout the quarter I regretted many times for taking her class, cause the content was so abstract and difficult. However, the stress was worth it in the end, cause she is really good with her materials and is willing to help. Although she did ruin my 4.0 GPA, I don't really care cause she was really helpful. I ended up with an A-...... I'm happy about it though.
I absolutely loved Rhetoric of Pop Culture with Kicenski. She has her own way of approaching the topic and truly helps you re-evaluate somethings that truly do have such an impact in daily life. Anyways, I recommend this class if you want to learn but have it enjoyable so that it's not breaking your back nor too easy. For the essays though, make sure to check with her because she really has her own style.
