Fall 2019 - Dr. Welty Tamai is a wonderful professor and lecturer. She is clearly passionate and enthusiastic about what she's teaching and truly wants everyone to succeed. The class entails a ton of outside reading, but the class itself wasn't difficult at all and was quite enjoyable. There are three essays (one smaller one and two longer ones) as well as discussion presentations, so it's a bit work-intensive at times (but completely doable!). If you need a social analysis GE or Writing II, definitely try to take this class.

Summer 2018 - Take this class, pay attention, and learn something. Best professor you can take this class with and highly recommend if you need writing credit. Sure there's a lot of reading, but you have plenty of time and most of it is useful. If anything, the books are more important than the assigned reading, and if you know someone who already took the class, it's the same.

Winter 2020 - Professor Welty is so sweet and supportive! She actually tries to know everyone's name, and she gives almost everyone a PTE. I am not an AA major but this class was very manageable. The readings are very interesting and easy to skim through. Professor Welty's lectures are very engaging and interesting, and she is very helpful during office hours. She also lets her students decide which concepts to be on the finals. Professor Welty is one of the most approachable and sweet professor I ever had in UCLA. This class is also very interesting. Highly recommended!
