Professor Henary is honestly super hard to understand and sometimes rushes through his lecture slides like crazy. However, his labs are pretty simple and you can figure it all out without his lectures. The TA I had was absolutely killer with her grades though. The midterms and finals weren't too bad. The only part of the labs I hated were the excel graphs.

Selling high-scoring labs at a cheap price! Makes the class much more bearable. Text me at (951)395-1881!

Dr. Henary knew the material well, but his delivery of the material could use some work. He often just talked the whole lecture, and while he did ask for questions, I feel that people often were not comfortable asking them because of his response. Sometimes he would answer what you asked, but other times not. Lectures help, but I would say that if you did well in 14A and B, that you may not need to go unless he changes the way he does them. Lab sections were really short as this was taken during COVID, so don't rely on this if classes are back in person. They just consisted of watching someone else do the experiment and then you used your data to do the analysis. They varied from taking almost no time to being a little time consuming. The tests were fair and he gave us 6-8 hours to do them. You do need to study for them, but if you do this, you will be okay. He did hold review sessions, but he just went over his slides again so they were not too helpful.

Overall I thought this was a pretty good class. It really helps to be added to a class groupme because students help each other with any wondering questions. The lectures were pretty straightforward. I stopped going to lecture halfway through the class and just went off reading the lecture slides. The labs were a lot shorter but it was a perfect opportunity to ask questions about the material and the lab questions. The only thing you got to worry about doing is the lab reports which are pretty tedious sometimes, but very doable. Overall, this class is super easy with the online format.

Note: I took this class online during quarantine, so it might be different in person.
I was a little nervous coming into this class because of all the discouraging reviews on Bruinwalk, but when actually taking it, I didn't find it as bad as people make it out to be. Personally, I didn't think he was hard to understand during lecture (whether for his accent or for his explanations), but even if he is hard to understand, I often learned from the slides by themselves even without going to lecture. Professor Henary also encourages people to ask questions and tries to clarify things if people say it's unclear. The TAs are really helpful and clarified things that might have confusing from lecture. Both Professor Henary and the TAs usually went over the labs during class so you have an idea of what to do when you start them. I would suggest going to/watching all the lectures if you can because I found that when I skipped them or didn't pay attention, it would be harder to do the labs. During lecture, he also points out specific things that may show up on exams and tells you how he wants you to answer problems. Lab attendance is mandatory, but they were always really helpful.

I would recommend taking 14BL after taking 14B. I took AP chem in high school and took this class two quarters after taking 14B, and I think that previous knowledge really helped for this class. I can imagine struggling with some of the calculations if I haven't learned them in 14B yet.

This class was an interesting experience, because we had to do it online. All the labs were prerecorded, and your TA just goes over some of the theory behind the experiment. This was certainly an advantage. Even though we did not gain useful lab skills due to the online format, the lab sections were usually around a half hour, rather than the three hours that are expected of us in person.

Henary, however, was not a fun person to take a class with. His lectures are often very confusing, and most of the time, it is hard to understand what he is saying. And on top of that, his emails are extremely confusing. He told us that the final was "no harm", by which he meant that it was easy, and we should do well. He did not go with the traditional definition of no harm, which states that the final will not negatively impact your grade.

For me, I was able to do well in the class because my TA was an angel and was super clear about what he wanted us to do. Shout out to you Brandon! However, I heard that other TAs are harder graders, so it's honestly just luck of the draw.

Henary is an ehhh professor, but he's certainly not a terrible one. The class itself was pretty easy, so the midterm and final were very doable. However, I recommend that if you get a chance, just take it with someone else. Good luck!

The class was not too bad, as long as you stay on top of your pre and post labs, you should be fine. The midterm was pretty easy, the final was a bit harder but not impossible. Henary prints all of his slides so that the students can follow along which is pretty helpful. The labs are not difficult, but some of them can be long and annoying. Overall, the professor tries to provide students with resources and extra study tools.

The class is frustrating because he is not clear in lecture and the final has a lot of stuff that he did not go over in depth. It's easy if you have access past labs and exams, but if not it's a ton of work that's easy to get points taken off for little things. Email jeremypeter33@gmail.com if you are interested in cheap A-graded labs and old exams almost identical to the final and midterm.
