If you are lucky enough to get a spot in her class please do take it! She is an absolutely amazing person and professor. From movies to video games and Facebook and Snapchat to artificial intelligence, she covered fascinating topics that we relate to and gave them deeper socio-cultural bases. Her discussions are captivating, her class content is super interesting and her grading is fair and comprehensive. Participation matters in her class and even though the idea of voicing your opinions in front of everyone is absolutely daunting, she brings out the best in you and encourages you without any pressure. Unexpectedly, I genuinely felt like contributing as much as I could. She makes you feel passionately about what you are writing and thus gets you really involved in it. She understands that writing, as a process, works differently for different people, and is very supportive and helpful. Her class has helped me improve exponentially and look at writing with more depth and perspective. Definitely one of the best classes I have taken here so far!
I took English Comp 3 with Ms Manojlovic and she was definitely one of the best professors I've had thus far at UCLA. She really cares about her students and wants this mandatory course to be interesting and relevant to them. She has you write essays about things that actually matter in your lives, such as movie trailers, retail stores, and social media. I would definitely recommend her for EC3 because I definitely learned to be a better writer and actually enjoyed writing my essays for her.
I wouldn't say it's an easy A as you do have to put in the work and write 3 essays, but she helps you write the best you can and makes it possible for everyone to succeed. I got an A and I know a few of my friends in the class did as well.
This class was probably the most helpful class I have ever taken. Professor Manojlovic is amazing, she's so engaging and you can tell she really cares about each and every one of her students. I love that she tried to get to know everyone in the class, it made it so easy to participate in discussion. The topic of my section was new medias and advertising, which at first seemed a little dry but as we dove into it, it was absolutely fascinating. I would take this class a million times over if I could. There are essentially 3 essays, 2 of them are 4 pages and one is a little longer. Honestly, it was a shockingly light workload, and I really enjoyed writing the essays because you could create your own topic to what interests you. There is quite a bit of reading, but you can get by on skimming the text, and she doesn't hold it against you if you come in unprepared. One of the top courses and top professors at UCLA.
I love Professor Manojlovic! She is a wonderful professor who will improve your writing by a lot! I never went to her office hours, but I suggest that you do because she will help you with your paper. I regretted not going to office hours, because if I did, I could have done better in her class in terms of writing. As long as you know how to analyze in her class, you should be fine! Her class focuses on media, which is very interesting. There's a group project and you have to go to a retail store and analyze it and present it. There is a total of three essays in her class. You have to do a daily journal for her readings by answering the in-text questions. I would definitely take her class again if I was allowed to! She is so warm and friendly in the morning (8 AM)! She understands that students are cranky in the morning, so she doesn't judge her students for being quiet. Instead, she encourages everyone to talk and participate! Definitely one of the best professors in the English department!
I loved this class. It helps a lot when you participate and get to know your peers a little better (for the group projects), but Maja is an incredible instructor and I would GLADLY take another class with her.
This was honestly the coolest class I have ever taken at UCLA. While the title of it makes it seem like you write about different types of media, it is strictly about video games. Maja is such a cool professor and there truly is no stress if you don't play video games. It is also a bonus that the class size is so small, so you get to know everyone!
