Spring 2021 - Prof Hackmann is one of the best professors I've ever encountered, especially within the Econ department. He was very responsive via email, he answered questions very clearly, class content itself was straightforward, interesting and extremely relevant to the reality of healthcare. I liked the international range of examples given as well. Textbook was comprehensive without being an overload and it was very clear too. I liked the problem set set-up (there were four of them to complete) where we were pre-assigned teams to complete problem sets together. I thought the workload was very fair (four problem sets, one mid-term, one final, and he provided two sets of practice mid-terms and finals too). Exams were reasonable and called for some application that depended on conceptual understanding, i.e. perfectly fair game. All in all, a great elective and the only unfortunate thing is that he isn't teaching more undergrad econ classes!
