Overall, I found this class to be boring but it was really easy. Professor S is super nice and really aims to connects with students. Discussions were very interesting every class period and involved a lot of personal reflection. Workload was decent and graded super easily; basically if you do it, you'll get 100. You create 2 blogs, 1 personal, 1 group, a few written responses, 1 project and final is an e-portfolio. Professor S was great but this class was boring. Easy A though and you meet some really great people.
You honestly get what you put into this class. Really enjoyed the introspection and chatting with her but if you aren't into it it can get quite boring sometimes. Would recommend taking it later if you can so you can work on your resume with her!
Man, I loved this class so much. The start of the course was very intimidating because I felt like an airhead compared to all the scholars in the class. It is super intimate and generally chill though, and I found everyone to be very sweet in the class. We honestly just had open discussions on most days about UCLA and our goals. So wholesome!
The readings aren't entirely necessary to do, I would just call them supplementary. The workload was definitely the most for me, but it was all self reflective and creative stuff. It was very manageable.
Professor Samuelson is the nicest woman ever! She is a genius and very understanding. She deserves it all!
I would 100/10 recommend this class!
Overall, the course is good. Professor S is very nice and helpful. Class discussions are engaging. Sometimes the homework can be interesting. I think the course is very useful for juniors or seniors cuz you are basically reflecting your roadmap and writing those application materials. However, heavy workload, more than a writing class. Anyway, Professor S gives fair grades, and it's easy to get an A, but you need to write A LOT!
I think Professor S is a wonderful human being who really is empathic to her students and was curious about each and every one of us. She even cried on the last day of class. The course is very manageable/easy and while I am certainly grateful for that, I wish there was something more to it. The class is discussion-based which is really nice, but it just felt like a time to espouse lived experiences and to all agree with self-evident ideas like getting off the assembly line and growth mindset. "Roadmap" is really not that great of a book, and the other readings were repetitive and dull. I really lament that we didn't as a class ever interact critically with some of these texts or have discussions in which we talked to each other instead of at each other. The highlight of the class for me was reading Lawrence Lessig and the Remix Project, and I was pretty let-down that the E-Portfolio process didn't warrant more time in the class and that we created them using Wix.com... Yes, it's the best introduction web design with pre-made templates, but there are other more serious ways to build a personal website that aren't as expensive (if you upgrade) or as tacky as Wix.
Honestly? This class is boring and not worth it. I had to take it for a program I'm in, and I really didn't enjoy it. I did enjoy the projects though, I learned to make a website effectively and got some good feedback on my resume.
This class is pretty easy and it’s nice because you’re forced to think about your future and possible career. There were a couple writing assignments but everything is about yourself so it’s nothing hard. There was a group project teaching something about the honors program which was also simple. She seemed interested in helping you figure out things and looked at our resumes. There was some confusion about when things were due.
