After reading the reviews pre-fall 2020 and deciding to take this class, I've been tricked, I've been backstabbed, and I've been quite possibly bamboozled

Man wtf was this class. I took this class with MGMT 1B with Ravetch and wanted to tap out like every day. Shit was too much. Never had I felt more stupid in my life. Beware, if you take this class, you better treat it like it's the only class you're taking. Other classes don't matter.

Class averages were so damn low. Like if you got a 65 on the first midterm, that would actually be a decent score as it was the mean for the whole class, but in reality that's a score that would make your parents disown you.

Class debated multiple times throughout this quarter on whether to buy him a Bugatti or Ferrari or whatever the fuck just so he gives us that fat curve.

Would love to have a nice lunch with pizza, champagne and pasta with the dude. He's a nice, harmless dude. But his tests are too math heavy. If this dude's goal was to make students change to soft majors, he succeeded in that goal.

Class of fall 2020 has been Mazzacred by the appalling power of Mazz's exams.

HOLY BEJEEZLES. I went in thinking that Mazzocco was going to be great given Bruinwalk but BRUINWALK WAS A LIE. During COVID, we thought that he would at least be a bit more lenient on the exams, but he made the final 3x harder than usual. We don't really ever speak to him and he is not very accessible outside of class. I honestly don't know what to say. For his previous exams and midterms, we had the old ones to look at but the exams were NOTHING like the test that we got this year. ECON 11 was hard already but lord, this class was made me hate econ on a whole new level. Best wishes to anyone who is going to take this class because the class of fall 2020 is defeated by the power of Mazz's champagne and pizzas.

Bad

This class made me feel like shit. After reading only good things about Mazzocco and his tests I went in to this quarter optimistic about my experience. Boy was I wrong. The time required to watch all the lectures alone almost doubles that of what it would be in person, and the ability to watch lectures later makes the work load twice as bad if you tend to not watch your lectures as they are posted. Mazzocco is a very nice guy, and I believe he means well but our class test averages were atrocious and even if the curve he applies makes up for it, the test taking was a miserable experience (no one likes finishing an exam feeling like they knew absolutely nothing)Definitely put the time in to master all of the complex math simplifications that are required for his all multiple choice exams (often times you get the right answer but spend a lot of time just trying to find out which of the multiple choice answers matches yours in a different form).

Going into this class I thought Mazzocco would be great, just like the reviews in previous years emphasized, but the fall class of 2020 did not witness that. Given the global pandemic we're in, I thought Mazzocco would be more accommodating to that but he wasn't. Tests were 10 times harder and I feel that our easy homework did not prepare for his tests.

His lectures were ok. He focused more on theory and did not give many examples in his lectures, which would've been ok if Econ 11 wasn't 90% math. His lecture style did not really match up with my learning style so I found myself having to teach myself the math involved in this class (btw my TA was alright but his teaching style left me confused often times)

He does post practice exams and typically that kind of gives you some idea as to what to expect but Mazzocco always had a trick up his sleeve. His reason for making tests hard were because they were open notes but with the time constraint, there was barely any time to look through your notes. And when students told him that his tests were hard, he would dismiss that feedback by saying how he thought the tests were "fair". That says a lot about him as a professor.

I'm not good at math so I was expecting this class to be a struggle for me regardless of the circumstances I took this class in but Mazzocco really made this class a lot harder than it had to be. I was hoping Mazzocco would come through at the end with that fat curve but he did not :(

If you're good at math, then you'll probably do well in this class. Avoid taking this class with Mazzocco online, he'll screw you over.

This class basically tests how well you can do algebra and calculus..... yet it’s called Econ 11.

bruh, I read the previous reviews, and I was like yuhhhh, I got a good professor. ohh I was wrong like wrong wrong. First off, we had TWICE as many lectures than in person. On top of that, he had like 20 hours of Q&As, which are basically like lectures. so we are looking at almost 3xs worth of lecture. On top of that, test were hella hard, and I don't recommend this class. maybe in person might be better, but not online.

Imma be honest, I've never written a review here before, but that's mainly because the reviews have been mostly right. I wouldn't have anything to add. Oh boy were they wrong about this one. Mazzocco made this class 100x worse than it had to be. The tests were some of the most ridiculous tests I've taken here at UCLA. He did not listen to the students when we said the first midterm was super hard and that we felt underprepared. He then told us that we didn't study enough... I've asked numerous questions in the Zoom chat over the course of the quarter, none of which have ever been answered. Does he just not look at them? Does he ignore them? I'll never know. He essentially only taught us theory and then complained when we asked him questions because "we should know this by now." I kid you not, some kid asked a question in a Q & A and he said "Oh you should already know how to do this. You just solve it." Like WHAT IS THAT? Anyways, we haven't even gotten grades back for this class but it honestly wouldn't even matter. If you can... stay away!
