Professor Cooperson is amazing. The best Arabic professor on campus hands down. The fact that I could find him anywhere, walking on campus, eating lunch, even at various demonstrations and protests, and I could *still* ask him for help on my Arabic is a testamant to how much he cares for students' learning. He's funny, which makes it easier to swallow his grading, which at times can be a little on the tough side, but hey, that's the price of learning a great language. Even though with Arabic, you don't get much choice of professors here, consider yourself lucky if you get Prof. Cooperson.

Fall 2017 - I really enjoyed this class, it was a super easy upper div! Professor Cooperson is knowledgeable and clearly cares about what he's teaching. His Powerpoints were easy to follow and got really interesting, especially toward the end when you talk about modern Islam. He provides lists of key terms to know for each quiz, which you should definitely take advantage of. Quizzes were multiple choice and the final was crazy easy -- multiple choice, fill in the blank, labeling a map, and matching. I finished it in 10 minutes. I'd for sure take this class again

Spring 2015 - This was a class on Arabic literature, taught in English. Professor Cooperson was a great lecturer and made the differences between the different Arab scholars and writers easier to understand; however, it was a bit difficult to not get mixed up between all the names. History played a large role in the course. In terms of assignments we had some multiple choice quizzes, three 3-page reviews of different readings from the course reader, and a final consisting of multiple choice and an essay. We had a lot of different readings, many of which were whole books (biographies, mostly), plus the course reader. However, the material was interesting, which made the reading a lot better. Would definitely take this class again.
