Im selling the textbook for this class for $20 plus shipping, or you can offer something lower, if it hasn't sold yet, I might take it! email me: kafflucy@me.com
Prof Hill is the GOAT!!! Best Prof I've had so far at UCLA. Extremely good at explaining complicated topics, and very understanding and accommodating if you're going through something, say, a pandemic or a movement for racial justice.
If you get the chance to take a Math class with him, DO IT!!!
He's a fantastic teacher with the online format.
My TA was Jason, and he's really helpful with explaining concepts and answering questions. All the LAs in this class were helpful too. They are really know their math.
Mike Hill is a GREAT professor. He is very clear in lectures and his exams are fair and usually consist of material that he has gone over, so it isn't unfamiliar. Definitely take this class with this professor, you will not regret it. There are weekly discussion worksheets that are worth a large percentage of your grade, and these are basically just free points. Homework is optional, but definitely do the problems because then the weekly quizzes are a breeze, you can just look for the problems within your homework and then write the answers.
If you have to take 32A take it with Hill! He was incredibly understanding especially during this first online quarter
Prof Hill was def one of my most understanding professors this quarter: grading scheme was 20% worksheets (graded on completion), 40% quizzes (lowest two dropped), 20% for the two midterms, and 20% for the final. Midterms and final were 24 hours, open note, open book, with access to CCLE. Some problems were even similar/reused from past exams that he posted. Even then, I still had some trouble with the midterms, but they were definitely fair even if they took a long time. The quizzes come from homework problems and conceptual problems that you answer on the spot. There's a 10 minute time limit for usually around 4 questions (could be more, could be less), with at least one conceptual. Given everything that happened around Week 9 and 10, he gave us all full credit on the last quiz. Overall, the conceptual questions are definitely doable if you understand lecture topics and read the textbook a bit.
Disclaimer- This was the first online quarter
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. HONESTLY CANT EXPRESS IT ENOUGH. His lectures were clear, he gave different approaches to the same concept, pace was easy going, explanations/definitions/examples all super clear. The class was amazing, so happy I took it. The grading scheme was 20% worksheets (which are like 3-4 questions that you can easily solve by going to discussion and are graded on completeness not on how correct it is) 40% on weekly quizes (not hard at all, 3 questions that come directly from the hw and 1 conceptual question that is easy if you are up-to-date with the lectures) 10% midterm 1, 10% midterm 2, 20% final which he gave 24 hours to do and were all fair game questions. I don't want to say they were easy but definitely asked questions we were prepared to answer. Also, he posted previous exams with matching solutions which were very helpful when doing the exams. All in all, super great class, amazing professor, I am so much more knowledgable about calc now, im so happy i took this class!!
Honestly, during a tough quarter like this one Professor Hill was by far and away the best professor anyone could have asked for. He was super understanding of the circumstances, appropriately weighted the midterms and finals while also not compromising the quality of lectures and test material. Great professor, funny, extremely nice, and engaging in class while also making 32A interesting.
I would love it if he would teach more classes at UCLA but super thankful I had him for 32A.
11/10 would recommend
Prof. Hill is awesome! He's super understanding and always puts our understanding first, even when he might run a little late to his original plan - he will ALWAYS address any questions before moving on during lecture.
Material for the class is also easy. Super fun and straightforward midterms and very generous weight given to quizzes that you can easily prepare for if you do the hw assigned beforehand. I appreciate that because midterms/finals may have some circumstances / time pressure that you can't handle and they shouldn't completely drop your grade down. So short but many quizzes (two of the lowest of which you can drop!) are so much better because you can always do better the week after.
He's super straightforward, makes clean understandable notes during class and his graphs are really helpful in pulling the understanding together. I love how easy he made things sound :) Take him if you can, super sweet and super great to keep up with his lectures!
