Quarter: Spring 2017
Grade: B+

Two words: Gemeinschaft and Geselleschaft. Congrats! You've completed the class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This teacher is absolutely horrible, and the TA's are no better. Greenfield literally reads right off her slides word for word, treats students like they don't know how to read, and is extremely egotistical. Not only that, but she makes students stand up from their seat if they have a question and shout it across the classroom. Totally unnecessary. Basically the whole class revolves around HER theory of development, which is so basic and easy to follow that it is not challenging at all. I got a B+ because my original TA had her baby so had to leave, and then another TA graded our project. She gave us a C and docked us points on time, when SHE was seven minutes late to class. When my group and I went to go talk to Greenfield, she was no help at all. She was extremely rude and arrogant. Basically if you disagree with her, she will treat you unfairly. IF YOU VALUE YOUR WORTH, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. SO BORING AND I DIDN'T LEARN ANYTHING.

This class is not that hard. However, it is mind-numbingly boring. She teaches the same theory for 10 weeks and it is neither interesting nor insightful. There was no midterm because her work was on display at Powell during the quarter, but the final was heavily based on the readings. I put in minimal effort and skipped class a lot and got a B+. If you need the course requirement or GPA bump, its not a lot of work but there are definitely better classes out there.

This class was so incredibly easy but not particularly interesting. The films (there were a total of 5) were the most interesting part of the class. Everything else was pretty boring and straightforward. The professor and TAs were accommodating, but sometimes directions were unclear especially in the beginning of the quarter.

I took this class during quarantine, so my review will be different from the ones from previous quarters. I do not know what she is like since our only interaction with her was the powerpoints, where she spoke very monotone. The class focuses on her ideas and theories and it is very repetitive. The class is easy if you do everything that you are supposed to do since 35% was participating in discussions. There is a group project, and my group was pretty good so I did not lose many points from it. Overall, the class is boring, easy, but the case studies were interesting. You just need to know Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft to pass this class btw.

If you want to learn or be stimulated in any way, do not take this class! This class should not be called "Culture and Human Development". It should be called "Greenfield's Theory". That's all she talks about for 10 weeks over and over again. On top of that, her syllabus was so confusing, and when most of the class kept asking for clarification, she took her time responding, and even then it was unclear. Because it was remote when I took it, our class meetings were replaced with powerpoints that had some audio files attached. A good amount of the slides didn't have any audio or the audio was just her reading the title of the slide. We were told to read the slides because they were "self explanatory". To make it worse, she posted the powerpoints late almost every single time. Sadly, this was the worst class I've taken so far. I don't know what she is like for in person classes, but if this class is remote next quarter don't take it.

I took this Spring of 2020 during the coronavirus quarantines/protests. The design for this class was thus a little different than usual, so do not rely on this for future Spring sections of this class, but the breakdown was as follows:

There were 200 points total, but the last final paper became optional so some students who opted out of the final were scored out of 160. The midterm and final paper were each 40, a group powerpoint project was 50, and the rest was consisted of online responses to discussion questions, film discussions, and submitting forum questions.

All lectures were put in powerpoint mode. The audio that accompanied the lectures was not very helpful, so you can probably read through all of the slides by yourself. The entire class, as other reviewers say, revolves around the concepts of Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft. It's all very common sense and straightforward, and once you can see the theme, the class becomes very easy although tedious and repetitive.

There were 5 films to watch and create responses to, and every week there were discussion questions based on group presentations and lectures of that week. I didn't even watch all of the films in entirety to answer questions. The Powerpoint is done in groups of 2-4 and although it takes a bit of time, it is also very easy to finish.

This entire quarter's class was done asynchronous due to real world events, and Greenfield and her TAs were very accommodating and understanding of the difficulties, thus why they made the last 40 point final paper optional and changed it instead to a very leniently graded reflection paper.

There is one book "required" for this class, Greenfield's Weaving Generations book, but I found it of no use at all. They are usually available for free in physical copy given by Greenfield herself. Overall, this is one of the easiest, although not terribly exciting, upper div psych electives you can take.

This class was so easy, take it if you need GPA booster but don't take it if you actually want to learn something new. Professor Greenfield is a sweet person but boring. She literally only teaches about her own research. The book required is also hers. I would fall asleep in class and got almost a perfect score on the exams. You just need to read the book and attend the first lecture and you'll be okay. Selling the book! Text 562 656 3960

This class is definitely an easy A upper div, so take it if you need one, but it's just incredibly boring and repetitive. Gemeinschaft & Gesellschaft: the only two words you'll be hearing over the course of 10 weeks. She does assign some interesting movies and readings though, and it's not the worst class to take for an easy A.

This class is easy and a lot better than the rest of the reviews would make it seem. It could be more interesting, and she does read off the slides, but that just means the material is really easy and you can just go off the slides. Also the tests are simple and straightforward; a lot of the questions are intuitive and not a lot of studying is required. And the material is still pretty interesting even though it can get repetitive; it's just not the most interesting class ever.

Honestly, just take it if you're looking for an easy class. If you're looking for an easy + interesting class, or you'd rather take interesting over easy, then this class probably isn't the best choice, but I personally think it's fine.
