Class is easy, if you read and know all of the material. There is actually quite a bit of reading, including 4 short novels and numerous stories in the course reader. The professor expects you to know them all fairly well because his exams test solely on ability to recall what you remember from the content. His exams are all multiple choice, making them short and easy to finish, but he does offer a few tricky questions which can only be answered if you truly know what happened in the story.

Talk about a swell guy Professor Wen is an amazing professor and lecturer. I honestly wish someone like him can teach all my classes. To be frank the class sounded very dull and boring but the material was actually quite interesting. Unfortunately I didn't take the course too seriously so I didn't end up with a high grade but that doesn't mean I'm going to write a bad review about the professor. The professor is great and if you want an A in the class, just do the work assigned and you will receive. Guaranteed.

It was my first year of UCLA, I very enjoyed this class. I had no idea about Scandinavian literature and had no interested. However, Professor Wen made this class interesting and fun! (I got A!) I sell my course leader, reading materials, paper and mid-term paper. $25

If you attend the lectures (watch all the films) and do all the assigned readings, this class is super easy.
Essay 10%: Very straightforward, 3-5 pages double spaced, and i believe the majority of the students got 100% on the essay. Out of 10 points. Each point is 1% of your grade.
Midterm 40%: 40 Plot-based multiple choice questions, if you did the readings and went to lectures, you'll be golden. Each question is worth 1% of your grade.
Final 50%: Same as midterm. 50 questions, with each question worth 1% of your grade.
Professor Wen is an awesome professor who literally explains everything twice to make sure everyone can understand or relate to what he's lecturing, and he is very approachable after lecture and during office hours. He also holds midterm/final review sessions, during which he practically tells you everything you need and do not need to know for the tests. Final Grade: A+, only 1 point off in the class (from the first midterm). Seriously guys, it's THAT easy. Definitely recommend as an easy (and fun!) GE.

This class is known as one of the easier GE's at UCLA. This is only the case if you ACTUALLY read and do ALL the assigned readings/films.
If you think you can get an A in the class by ditching lectures since "they're posted online" or just search up summaries of the assigned readings, then reconsider taking this class. The actual material isn't difficult to understand nor too boring.
Lecture slides are posted online but they aren't filled with bullet points, only titles and pictures are on his slides meaning if you didn't go to lecture you have no idea what he said about that certain topic. This GE is only easy in a sense that the material is very easy. If you don't take any of the material seriously, don't expect an automatic A+.
Homework: one essay that's it (10%)
Test: Midterm (40%) and Final (50%)
As you can see the two tests are basically your grade so if you fail/barely pass on either one then say goodbye to your A.
However, his tests are not hard because they are mainly plot based M/C questions, quote identifications (which he makes extremely obvious), and some lecture based questions. Sometimes he even throws in ridiculous answer choices that you know are wrong and can eliminate. But let me tell you this right now: if you think a summary of the readings will suffice, you're dead wrong.
As for an evaulation of the professor. Professor Wen is an amazing lecturer. He is always full of enthusiasm and just gives off a positive vibe. He's very easy clear, concise, and can be quite funny at times. He seems very passionate about what he teaches. Professor Wen is very effective in his lectures and is an overall awesome professor. So for the love of God just do the assignments they don't take long and they're easy to complete.

I really enjoyed Professor Wen. Scandinavian 50 is easier than other GE's but don't get caught off guard when you actually have to study a little bit for the Midterm and Final. This class has been one of the ones that I have enjoyed the most at UCLA not because it was easy, but because Professor Wen makes the class fun and interesting, the readings aren't bad and neither were the movies. I loved the movie Tillsammans. If you need to fulfill this GE requirement take the class if you can get into it!

This class IS a joke. Not a ridiculously easy A, but a ridiculously easy A+, my peeps.

The readings and the movies are pretty cool, interesting, the professor tries to be funny. Take this class if you wanna have some fun.

You only need to ready or SparkNote all the readings the days before the midterm and final, because the exams were plot-based MCQs. There was a short paper which was super easy, too. The professor admits that he tries to make the class easy and fun, which he succeeds at.

I had fun. The class was chill and cool.
