I'm not a huge Hammer fan. Before the class even started she had sent us a bunch of very long e-mails with information about the class. She sends out a few e-mails a week, which always included a bunch of optional readings. NEWS FLASH - No one EVER does optional reading. These readings are in addition to the hundreds of pages a week that are required. Hammer is very passionate about this subject, but she also thinks that all of her students will be just as excited and college students are never excited about anything except for free booze. She is very obnoxious and can be really rude. She did get Adrian Grenier to come and guest lecture and he was pretty nice to look at for an hour. Overall I would give the class an "eh".

This was a GREAT class and Rhonda Hammer is a TERRIFIC professor. It is combined with a mandatory lab where you learn the processes necessary to create a documentary. You work in groups of your own choosing based on documentary topics. If there is a topic you are passionate about, come to the first class with a thought out direction you would like to take. This class is very intense with much of the work coming at the very end via editing of the documentary. Rhonda's lectures and class discussions are exceptional and she has many really interesting speakers come into the class as well. To actually see your group's documentary at the final day of class makes all the hard work very worthwhile!
