Dr. Johnson is a great professor! He is very friendly and has a wonderful personality. I took this course during Spring 2021 and it was one of my favorite courses throughout my college experience. The class is straightforward and has minimal workload. Participation is required and all you have to do is some short readings followed by easy groupwork assignments during class. I highly recommend this class!
I wish there was more classes like this at UCLA. No exams, you get to interact with each other during class, and the professor is down to earth. On top of all of that it's probably one of the easiest psych classes, so take it!
TAKE THIS CLASS. Professor Johnson structured this class so it super low stress, all you have to do is complete the readings which are often times pretty long, attend live Zoom lecture because after the lecture you will go to breakout rooms to discuss and answer some group questions which were sometimes challenging but doable and submit the answers by the end of class time. NO EXAMS, as long as you do what I mentioned and do well on the questions then you are guaranteed an A-. You also rate your classmates on their effort and contribution during breakout sessions but I was lucky to get the best groups who gave full points as long as you contributed to the questions. If you want to get an A or A+ you will have to write up your own research proposal which I actually enjoyed doing. Mine was only about 6-7 pages long and was able to get an A in the class. 100000/10 recommend to take this class with any other more challenging courses since it is very stress free. Professor Johnson is super approachable and it was a pleasure to take his course.
AWESOME PROFESSOR. ENOUGH SAID.
Professor Johnson is one of the best Psychology professors! I really enjoyed the class (even though I may have fallen asleep several times, but I do this in EVERY class unfortunately...) if you are interested in developmental psychology, this is the best class to take as it gives you an introduction to it and is not overwhelming. It was a fairly easy class, just make sure you pay attention to lectures as most of the exam questions are from here. There are several odd-ball questions from the reading book, and honestly, I did not read but skimmed it and still managed to get an A-. This may be because he does drop your lowest score if I remember correctly, and there is a generous curve. My FAVORITE PART OF CLASS was when he showed us video clips of the experiments he was talking about. He also likes to show graphs. If you are a visual person, this class is great since he incorporates visuals. Great class! I would definitely recommend. He is also a very funny and SARCASTIC guy. His jokes are funny and he is even great if you have him for his honors discussion for this class. Unfortunately, I had to drop it, but my friend said he shared a lot about his personal life and it was just fun to listen to it and get to know the professor outside of lecture.
I'm sure he's great in lecture classes, but I took his lab and it was a different story. I heard 131 was supposed to be really easy, but it was NOT - we had to write way too much compared to other lab classes. I also heard he was supposed to be an easy grader, but that was not the case either :/ He also comes off as kind of arrogant. I would avoid if possible, or if you want to take 131 do it with Greenfield or Sandhofer. I do not recommend taking lab with him.
