Honestly, the way to do well in this class is to really do all of the problems in the Thinkbook that Hardinger asks you to buy. It's also worth it to buy the Lecture Supplement as it makes taking notes in lecture really easy and easy to follow along. In terms of the midterms and final, the best approach is to do all of the practice exams he has on his website (and older exams if you can find them), and to do the Thinkbook problems! Overall, not a terrible class if you put in the effort.
For all pre-meds I'm selling custom made MCAT Full-Lengths which are custom designed with AAMC style questions. These questions mimim question packs and section bank. If you don't want to purchase the AAMC question banks separately you can get it in Full-length format to enable most important practice in your study schedule to gauge where you're at and how to improve. Hardinger is clear and concise, sets you up to succeed in his class, as long as you view his lectures. Would recommend finding a TA you like and going to their discussions. I am selling the newest edition of the Thinkbook, has not been written in, for $30. Selling the lecture supplement, which has notes, for $25. Selling the textbook Organic Chemistry by Vollhardt for $8! I also have a drive of dozens of old tests for midterms and finals that guarantee an A for you because he likes to reuse questions. Only $6.Prices negotiable! Just message me at velmathanh97@gmail.com.
Lectures can get repetitive and boring; they're bruincasted so you don't have to attend class. He explains well but the course is designed such that you don't learn anything in depth, and as a result, you're left with a million questions about the specifics of processes/ideas.
I went into this class very wary, as almost the entire world hates on o-chem. However, this has been my favorite chemistry class by far (much better than 14A and B). Hardinger is an exceptional teacher: he has an infinite amount of resources, is abundantly clear, and even his course reader is sooo helpful and easy to read. To get a good grade you need to do his supplemental problems. Trust me. It seems like a lot, but it absolutely cements your understanding and you will test excellently. I love this man, and highly recommend him.
Hardinger is very straightforward and gives clear and engaging lectures (most of the time). The thinkbook is pretty helpful but not necessary for doing well on exams. The problems are built to make sure you understand the concepts, which I liked, but they did not reflect the exam questions. The best way to study was to do the past exams on his website. If you do all of those and make sure you understand each problem you should be good to go for his tests, which are very fair. All in all, he's a great professor and makes Oraganic Chem much easier than it seems.
