I HATED Loza. And hell, I'm a music major. I'm supposed to LIKE music. I had him for M10B, which was this hot mess of a core class that all music majors had to take. It was AWFUL. He taught directly from the readings, so all you had to do was do the reading and you had his lectures for the next 5 weeks. Also, he didn't define things. It took me until office hours with my TA during week 8 to realize that "clave" and "claves" were different. And these were essential concepts to his class. He had simply failed to differentiate between them. He had been using them interchangeably and that is so incredibly incorrect it's not even funny. He also has a weird obsession with Tito Puente. Everything somehow relates back to Tito Puente. He also only talks to the Latin students in the class and will make many, many references to random people and movies and things that no one understands except maybe two people. And there were about 90 people in this class. If you have any sort of interest in Latin music, do NOT take Loza's class.

Very easy class. You just listen to musical performances by different groups that come to lecture. Take a couple of notes, if you like. It's a good class to just fall asleep in (= The professor is really funny even tho he's not there half the time to lecture but that's okay. It's a easy 4 unit class that's offered fall qtr. Want something easy? Just take this class! If you decide to take it email me for the course reader and 3 tapes you have to buy. I can sell them to you for a really good deal!! Thanks

Loza's lectures are EXTREMELY boring. It is also hard to determine the main point he is trying to convey to the class. They are useless, much like the reader. Don't buy it, you won't need it to get an A. Although his class is boring as can be, there is an upside - it's SUPER EASY. His tests (one midterm and final) consist of matching questions. Just fill out the study guide after you Wikipedia the people and terms. There's no excuse to not get A's on the exams. There's also an 8-page paper that's also easy. Take it for a 5 unit GPA booster.
