I took Comm 157 during A sesh of summer 2020 (so all online). Overall I had an ok experience. Professor Peterson is incredibly flexible about grades, attendance, projects, everything. Instead of a midterm or final he spaced out three quizzes (worth 15, 15, 20) throughout the session and they were ridiculously easy as long as you've done the reading AND he curved them. I found it really generous on his part to be so lenient with grades and really appreciated that because it was a summer class. In terms of the lectures though... he can be a bit all over the place. One thing I did find quite annoying is his ego, lectures often were 45 minutes at least of catching up on celebrity news which can get a little ridiculous. But the readings were fantastic, all relevant and interesting and not too much per week. The individual research paper due Week 4 took a little effort to get everything together, but ultimately was not bad. The final project about half did in groups, I chose to work alone and made a short doc about an aspect of celebrity life. It was honestly pretty easy, not too much to work alone either. Overall, Peterson said as long as you put in effort and go to class your grade will reflect that and he stuck to that which is very admirable. Would recommend as a good starter GE, not too difficult and he's always open to talk or meet during office hours.
If you're looking for a super easy Comm upper div would really recommend this one. Peterson is really into research so you do a mini research project with about 1-2 other people (or by yourself if you want). There was a midterm and final which are based straight from the readings, and maybe a few things on lecture. Also there is a "practice research paper" which is also super easy to write.
Peterson's lectures are super boring, and you just go to get the participation grade.
A midterm, final, research paper and a min research paper. Tests are multiple choice but have questions about tiny details that aren't too important. He's very helpful and taught the class with great insight. Class was great.
