Professor Harrison is a very engaging lecturer. He very obviously enjoys teaching this class and chooses movies that are interesting and provocative. Although this is a class in the Italian department, it is very film analysis heavy. Much of the material is based on learning film terms, directors' perspectives, camera movements, etc. The class wasn't too much work, it only involved three short ~500 word essays, one midterm and a final. The essays weren't graded too harshly, and the tests were multiple choice. Overall I enjoyed the class and gained a new level of respect and admiration for Italian films.

I enrolled in this class after hearing how it was an "easy A" GE, and I honestly really enjoyed the class! Some of the movies were better than others, but Professor Harrison was always a funny and engaging lecturer, and quite helpful during his office hours. Each discussion section, we were given a three-question multiple choice quiz that was extremely easy, and encouraged to participate in the class discussion. The midterm was also all multiple choice and very easy as long as you listened to Professor Harrison's lectures, did the readings, and rewatched the movies on your own time. The three essays were not that difficult to write, and were graded fairly. The only problem I had with this class was the difficulty of the final exam. Unlike the midterm, which was very focused on the movies (plot, characters, themes, etc.), the final was heavily based on the readings (Reich, Freud, Boccaccio, etc.), which was not only unexpected but also more difficult to understand and study for. In the end, I received an A- in the class, which was quite frustrating considering I received A's on the midterm, all three of my papers, and all the discussion section quizzes. I was only able to get a B- on the final, which in turn caused my overall grade of an A-. Nevertheless, I recommend this class because of Professor Harrison and quality of most of the movies.

I just started UCLA this fall and I am so grateful that this is one of the classes I took. Harrison is so funny and intelligent. Every now and again he goes off on a tangent but its always hilarious to hear him try and figure out what he was trying to say originally. All of the TA's are super sweet, chill and helpful. The reading is really interesting and so are the movies we watch. The essay prompts are also really thought-provoking and fun to write about. Cannot recommend enough.

Hands down best class I took at UCLA. Take this class, there's no final and the readings/movies are dope. I rewatched Li and the Poet a couple times later.

Take this class it will seriously be the easiest GE while still being the sickest GE you will ever take. Harrison is amazing, really funny, and just an all around cultured man. I got by without really reading any of the assigned books. Skimmed some and definitely did not read a page of the Decameron. only have to write 3 short papers and take a 5 min quiz at the beg of each disc so workload is super chill. freaking take this class!! the movies were sick the lectures were interesting and not only are you engaging with art but also the current and past political climate. i literally haven't taken a better class since!!!
