Tony is the best!!! He's so supportive of his students and encourages growth over anything else. He's a great grader for essays, always gives totally fair grades that encourage you to try. However, his comments on every single essay are helpful and wonderfully guided and give so much to work off of for the next papers.
The course material is so interesting, he explores different ways history is told in fiction, nonfiction, and theory. This is the best class I have taken at UCLA so far, and it's largely because of Tony. He's so inviting, and I wish I could take another class with him.
Tony is one of my favorite professors I've had in my time at UCLA. Everything we learned in class was so relevant and he was so so empathetic during the circumstances we were in. I couldn't ask for a better professor. The class is structured perfectly, there are weekly readings that were pretty interesting though I struggled with some of them as they were fairly difficult, but Tony allowed us to collaborate and leave comments throughout the readings. We had 3-4 papers in total, but he cancelled the final paper as protests were happening around the country. He is a fair grader and his comments were insightful; I truly feel like I improved every paper.
I wish I could take another class with Tony because he was truly such a compassionate person. Taking writing 2 with him was the best decision I made, if you're considering taking this class, ABSOLUTELY!! You will not be disappointed, as a STEM major I learned so much from this course.
This is one of my favorite classes I've taken at UCLA. Everything we talked about was engaging and we had a lot of interesting discussions. Tony is incredibly kind, understanding, approachable, and genuinely cares for the wellbeing of their students. They're a queer Asian person, and as a fellow queer Asian person, I found them rather inspiring. I genuinely enjoyed the discussions we had, and everyone in my class seemed intrinsically motivated, and so everyone was constantly sharing ideas and participating. I would highly recommend taking this class with Tony. They are empathetic, intelligent, and passionate about the subject, and overall an excellent instructor.
