Pretty easy GE. A lot of reading, but mostly skimming is helpful enough to understand the class. Bascara lectures in a slow voice that makes taking notes easy, but staying attentive kind of hard. Needed to write three essays, but midterm was really easy (got 100%) if you looked at a test bank and studied the readings/paid attention in discussion. Final exam was cancelled because of the fire, so only did the group presentation, which required minimal effort as well.

Class was mostly just papers and a final project. Paper prompts were vague but you got graded on a draft and the final draft so usually it was easy to get an A. You do have to go to class and read the book to help you with your paper because you need evidence.
Class is relatively an easy GE. As long as you do the readings and listen along the lectures (which are slightly boring :( ), you really don't have to prepare much for the midterm or final. Assignments are also pretty straightforward, so I would not worry too much about the essays. I definitely would recommend anyone to take this GE. I am also selling the all the course readings (including Amerasia Journal and "Native Speaker") for $15. Email me at donnatopia15@gmail.com if interested.
Despite my lack of effort in the class, ASIAN AM 40W truly is an "easy A" of a GE. I am not disappointed with myself because my grade reflected my attitude and approach towards the class. Professor Bascara is an incredible professor with an engaging teaching style that includes interesting content. The class was graded by weekly one-page responses, three essays, and a final (if I remember correctly).

Professor Bascara is a nuanced thinker. His lectures and assignments reflect that. The class was in person and I was often confused during lectures however, he is very helpful during office hours and is clearly passionate about the readings and material. The exams were essays and there are research and writing activities during class that counts toward your grade, however, the essays are a big part of it (35%). The essay prompts are complex and took forever to write but Professor Bascara is a nice grader, I believe he gives you a better grade than you deserve. He gives insightful commentary for your writing assignments, and it is an overall interesting class. I left with a greater appreciation and understanding of Filipino American culture. There is a lot of reading, I got the required book free online at libgen. I recommend taking this class if you want an A, the workload is heavy but he grades nicely.
