TAKE THIS CLASS WITH CONLEY!!!!!!
Literally the best and most caring professor ever. His class was so simple and easy (the last three weeks were a bit challenging but if you keep up it's fine). I genuinely would want to take this class again just to have him as my professor.
Any time you ask for an extension on a deadline he would ALWAYS give it, including labs, and even portions of exams since they have 2 phases. He is so accommodating and would always listen to what his students wanted.
There are so many opportunities to get points in his class besides exams so it wasn't difficult to keep a good grade. I didn't even watch the last 4 weeks of lecture and I still got an A. His class wasn't strict on covering certain topics on certain class days. Sometimes he would over-explain topics which would result in him shortening homework since he couldn't cover the rest of the material until the next class meeting.
For exams, he would always host a review session a few days before it and go over all of the content that the exams covered. Those review sessions were the only reasons I got A's on all of my exams (2 midterms and one final). I'm not even kidding, this man would break down everything and basically reteach all of the material in those review sessions.
Conley was so funny and such a precious guy. He would always show us his dogs and crack jokes in class. TAKE IT WITH HIM!!!!
Professor Conley is THE BEST. He is one of the few teachers I have had so far at UCLA that genuinely wants all students to pass his class. Conley goes above and beyond to help his students succeed. He is generous with grading and attendance considering it is virtual and much harder. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and learned a lot. If you ever get the chance to one of his classes you should!
Will Conley (and Artur who taught with him) are quite possible the best professors on the entire campus. I took this course during the pandemic, and they have been so accommodating and understanding of student needs. LS30B is harder than LS30A, but not only does Conley make difficult linear and multi-variable concepts understandable, he also cares so much about student learning and well-being. He's a fantastic lecturer and is so clear with explanations! Only downside was that we had pre-lectures on top of normal lecture, so the workload was more than a usual in-person class; however, the professors allow you to watch at your own pace since its podcasted and drop your lowest assignments. 100% recommend!!!
Will conley is the greatest human being to grace the planet. I would trust him with my own children. Please take this mans class. Super nice, informative, and engaging. Everything was manageable. Will Conley is the definition of beauty.
Will not be taking another class with this professor. Lectures were long, drawn out, and unclear. I took this professor as reviews said classes were clear and he was helpful but that was not the case. Gave ambiguous study guides for tests, making the final extremely difficult by involving concepts not covered/very little covered in class. This professor is not worth it, definitely look for a different one.
Great class and great professor
You will need the textbook so if you havent bought it yet I am selling my textbook Rogawski second edition with binder included. No notes or highlights, and in mint condition. Text me at (818) 585-4397 I can meet on or around campus. Selling for$50 with price negotiable.
His notes and lectures are clear and very in depth! You don't need to read the textbook at all because his lectures teach the concepts very well. Do the homework because the weekly quizzes are almost identical to the homework problems. He definitely cares for his students because before every exam he has a review session and it lasts for as long as students need. We would ask a bunch of questions and he didn't even mind that the review session went to three hours. Calculus will never be completely easy, but his exams were fair and really tested your understanding of the material. If I could have him as a professor every quarter, I would! Definitely one of the best professors here on campus!
I took math 3A with professor Conley!
HE IS DEFINITELY THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He is a new professor so i was scared to take him at first.
But his classes turn out to be really interesting, and his midterms are not tricky at all.
Some of the harder proof he talks about are fun and will not be tested on.
He does not have homework grade and gives out a quiz in section every week.
You don't have to study for the quizzes at all. They are very easy and your TA will go through very similar questions as well.
He cares about his students VERY MUCH! and accepts unscheduled visits besides his office hours!
SO TAKE HIM!!!!!
Will teaches very clearly and he gave us programming assignments from which we can actually experience the beauty of cryptography.
Tests:
1 Midterm, 1 Final.
The tests can be a little bit long, but they are easy if you understand the material.
Homework:
Homework can be a headache for someone who knows nothing about Math 110A, like me, but if you are willing to spend more time, you are totally fine.
Project:
Will asked us to dive into a cryptographic field that is not covered in class, and this project basically gave us a taste of researches.
However, this course should have Math 110A as a prerequisite since we spent so much time on number theory and finite fields. We could totally spend such time on actual cryptographic applications, like elliptic curves, pseudorandom generators, etc.. I hope the department can change the prereq and make this course better.
By far the best Math professor I've had. If you have the opportunity to take Conley for a math course, do it. He is really good at teaching and explains thing well. On top of that, his office hours are extremely helpful. Usually he takes all the students who show up to a vacant classroom next to his office and answers question individually in a very clear way. If I had to criticize anything about his teaching, it would be that he can sometimes move to slow or be a little repetitive, but that is MUCH better than moving to quickly or being vague. I knew he was a great teacher while I was in his course, but it wasn't until the next quarter when I had a professor who didn't explain things very much at all that I really came to appreciate Conley's teaching.
As far as the difficulty of the course goes, I would not say that it is an easy A. The homework and subject can be a bit challenging, however the exams are not terribly difficult. You are expected to have a thorough understanding of the course material, however this is easily possible because Conley prepares students well. In general, great professor, great lecturer, great guy.
