This was definitely an easy class! If you are looking for an easy GE, look no further! Although the content after the midterm gets a little bit harder, as long as you pay attention in lecture (which I did not do), you will be fine. A lot of people skipped lecture cause she would post the slides online and they were very detailed and easy to understand/follow. There would be weekly homeworks which were easy enough to do and there would also be weekly quizzes in discussion which were based on completion and a form of attendance. The professor was very nice and always made sure to answer questions! I definitely recommend you take this class!
Up until the final this was the easiest class ever. Read the other reviews for logistics but it was such a light workload, midterm was super easy, and so were the weekly “quizzes.” I want to say that the professor is extremely rude and does not like answering questions. She is very blunt and as the quarter progressed she only got worse. Then there is the issue of the final. Someone posted that we didn’t do well because of overconfidence and not studying which can’t be further from the truth. I studied and got a B- which isn’t terrible but compared to the difficulty of this class I was really upset. Also, I had a literal A+ on every assignment in this class including the midterm and still ended with an A- after getting a B- on the final. It’s complete B.S. I regret taking this as a GE
I think that this class has interesting material, but I personally found that the lectures were dry and tedious to understand. The grading scheme with the homework and essays are easy enough, but I don't feel as if I learned that much during the class.
If you're looking for an easy (and fairly interesting) GE, look no further! I highly recommend Ling 1 with Sharvit. Homework was really light (only a few short assignments throughout the quarter), and you got full points on the quizzes in discussion as long as you showed up. Readings were really minimal too, and the midterm and final were both multiple choice and very straightforward.
I believe that the class was appropriate for an introductory linguistics course as well as for a GE. The class did seem a little tedious at times, especially before the midterm, but after that it became much more interesting, with my two favorite lectures/topics being syllables and animal communication. However, one downside of the class was the strange wording of the final; some questions were difficult to understand in terms of what they were trying to ask. Overall, this class follows a very clear structure and is not too difficult to follow in terms of content.
This is definitely the easiest Philosophic and Linguistic Analysis GE. There is very minimal work in this class, and the tests are extremely easy (literally go over the slides the night before and you'll be fine). She posts all of the slides online too. Highly recommended.
