This class is great with Amy! She's super inclusive and understanding that students have lives outside of school. She was flexible with deadlines, and it was really easy to approach her for more time. She challenges the power dynamic of the classroom, which I really enjoyed. This class didn't have any tests, but we did have to write a few papers but they weren't too much. She connected the information from this class to what is happening present day, and it was super interesting learning about the political scenes of other countries. I would definitely take this class again and would recommend it to anyone looking for an easy class.

Professor Ritterbusch is the most caring and excellent professor I have ever met at UCLA. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about her field. Through this class, You can definitely learn various perspectives toward social movement and social activism. Her social activist guests' lecture is absolutely amazing.

Honestly, I loved everything about this class. The professor transformed the class into one discussing structural oppression and social injustices and she did such a good job of explaining the concepts. It is all based on collaboration, and thought the readings are definitely a lot on some days, I found this class to be very fulfilling!

This class is really hard to take seriously sometimes. The professor means well, and is super nice, but the ridiculously light workload (like, maybe 10 hours total for the entire quarter) makes the class seem like a joke at times. I mean, the final was a one page memo written by your entire discussion section (over 20 people). She maybe docks one or two points when she grades, so it's basically impossible not to get an A on the assignments.

I felt like this was a ten-week course in how to be woke. The professor is super mushy, touchy-feely, etc., but I really valued the hyper-liberal take and it was an interesting exercise in being super uncomfortable. There are no tests, because she doesn't believe in them, and the essays are all reflexive and easy. If you meet deadlines, I don't see how you could get lower than an A.

the professor is truly passionate about what she teaches, I feel like this class taught me things that I would never have expected to learn in an academic setting. She has a lot of guest speakers from Colombia which are really interesting to hear from. There are no exams, she doesnt believe in them. However, there are a couple of reflexive essays which require you to incorporate the readings so its important to keep up with them. The final is a group final with everyone in your section (approx. 20 people). This class really teaches you how to work in a group with a lot of people!

Like the other reviews mentioned, Amy is super nice and cares about her students' well-being. The workload is really light and you learn about lots of cool stuff in this class! We learned a lot about activism and social movements around the world, particularly in Colombia. Definitely recommend this class if you want a cool, interesting, and easy GE, and if you're majoring in Public Affairs take this class with Amy!

I love Dr. Ritterbusch! I learned a lot about social activism through this class and her experiences fighting for social justice in Columbia were amazing to hear about. The guest lecturers, who are also social activists, are really amazing people doing great work in a variety of contexts and are a pleasure to hear from. The grading of the class is very relaxed: the average for the essays are around 97%, in class quizzes are mostly your own reflections, and the group work is also graded generously. 10/10 professor and class.

This class was very interesting because she made it very engaging and relevant to our society and modern issues. She values diversity, unity, and camaraderie, so these values are incorporated in the way she teaches and structures the class.

If you take this class, take the extra step to get to know her. She is a wonderful person who sincerely cares for the personal and academic success of her students.

Definitely one of the best classes and professor I have had at UCLA. The structure of the class is so amazing and relevant to current societal issues. The professor is so passionate about the work she is teaching which influences you as a student to be just as passionate. If I was able to take this class again, I would. If your looking for a good not too heavy class, this would be a perfect fit for you.
