Dr. Esdin is a great guy, he cares a lot about his students and what he teaches and is great at explaining things well during lecture and being engaging.
Definitely recommend taking this class! It was super interesting and Edsin is a great speaker. I took this class virtually and everything was asynchronous- 3 lectures a week for 50 minutes each then a short 2-3 question quiz after to make sure that you watched the lecture. The only work in this class besides the lectures is a lifestyle project where you assess your activity and nutrition for a week. This class was low-stress, easy, interesting, and not a lot of work. The midterm and final were both 20-25 multiple choice questions and were pretty easy. It would have been much more interesting in-person but I still learned a lot.
this class was alright just a regular health science vibe. easy project and quizzes, I found it really helpful to read the course reader! if you want to buy my course reader for CHEAP text me: 9165442741 its the same one each quarter
Doctor Esdin is very knowledgeable on the subject. He posts his lectures on time for us to watch at any time during that day. He also has participation quizzes for each lecture to make sure we are understanding the concepts which are very helpful when it comes to exams. His exam and quizzes can be a bit tricky with the wording but you just have to pay very close attention to all details presented in the lecture. I learned a lot from this course and it is due to Doctor Esdin's way of explaining concepts which made it very easy to follow along. Overall a great professor!
Esdin has definitely been my favorite professor of the LS7 series! I thought the content and the lectures were a lot more interesting than 7A and 7B, part of it was due to the fact that Professor Esdin is a really funny and engaging lecturer. The exams were still set up the same as the ones from 7A and 7B (multiple choice and true/false questions) but there were also exam wrappers that we could take at after each exam to get points back if you missed any. These were really helpful and helped boost my grade a decent amount, I wish other classes in the LS7 series had that option. Take the class with Esdin, you won't regret it!
Selling course reader for cheap price is negotiable. 3234828187 don’t spend $100 online .
Never saw the professors face he only uploaded lectures of a PowerPoint & his voice. The quizzes were pretty easy just use your notes .
Project was easy START EARLY.
Workload: Lectures are about 3 hours of work per week, and discussion sections are 2 hours of work every 2 weeks, the entire project will take about 4-5 hours. So, the workload is really light. Tests are not very hard, they're just multiple choice exams that you can easily ace if you just remember some vocabulary and terms from the lectures.
Course reader is pretty useless, would not recommend getting it, instead you should just get an iprofile account from someone else since all you need to do with iprofile is to record some data and save some PDFs from the website.
Love the class! The content is interesting and it's not tough at all. You get to learn about your health and how to make healthy choices, and it's one of the classes where you really learn something that can improve your life. Plus, it's got to be one of the lower effort GEs out there. If you need a Life Science GE class, definitely hit up Phy Sci 5.
Professor Esdin not only wants you to do well in his class but his main goal is for you to get something really valuable from this class, and that is a healthy lifestyle. Personally, after taking his class, I became more careful about what I ate and started to work out more. I did take this class during COVID so I did not get to experience the fun in person lectures. The lectures for this class were not live, they were recorded and were simply him going over slides with bullet points and giving brief overviews of each topic. I would have liked if he added his camera in every single one of his recordings to keep students more engaged.
IMPORTANT ASSIGNMENT is a lifestyle project where you have to record every single meal you consume and all the physical activity you do for an entire week. You are not graded on your health, just on your actual analysis on what you eat and exercise.
For this project YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE iprofile platform, which is a software used to track what you eat and your exercise. I bought this for about 30 dollars on amazon but I am willing to hand it down to someone for HALF PRICE! :) 100% you will need this so feel free to contact me 619 577 78882
This class is alright but for Spring Quarter, I felt that this class didn't really live up to all the reviews saying how easy this GE was. Lectures were pre recorded and given asynchronously at a certain time and along with each lecture, a participation quiz was attached. You had until 10pm the day of to complete the quiz and every even week on Fridays, there was the participation quiz along with 2 additional quizzes needed to be completed back to back. They quizzed you on past lecture material as well as lab discussions. There were a LOT of quizzes and the wordings on each one were quite tricky and often confused a lot of students. Certain information said in lecture is then twisted in another way on the quizzes and if you didn't fully understand what was discussed, you're likely to miss the question. Take really good notes and pay attention to what Professor says instead of what is listed on his slides. They're a little disorganized. This class requires you to buy a course reader + iProfile software to track what you eat and what you do for 7 consecutive days. Honestly, not worth the prices AT ALL. Lectures are enough to get you through the quizzes, midterm, and final. You could find a cheaper version of iProfile on Amazon or share with your peers (multiple profiles can be made in one single program). There's one big project due at the last week of the quarter that uses all the information you inputted into the software and you have to write discussions and recommendations on each nutrient, vitamin, and macronutrient that you're deficient, in excess, or in range of. It's tiring to do and very repetitive. If you don't want to waste your money, I can offer my course reader + iProfile software for a reduced price than what is being charged (you can't get these materials from the UCLA store). Text (626) 425-0939 and if in need of good lecture notes, midterm reviews, and final reviews, I can offer those too so good luck with this class!
