Quarter: Spring 2020

I took this during quarantine which is why I could have mixed feelings about this class. The lectures were recorded online, discussions are mandatory and tend to run long, tests were harder than the quizzes. One project was covered over the entirety of the course along with a program that was $100 that I would only use for a week so that was a bummer. The work if not kept up with it tends to pile up pretty overwhelmingly. I would give this class an overall solid 6.5/10.

The Lifestyle Assessment project was exhausting so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to complete that. Dr. Esdin was great! He was effective in his asynchronous lectures and left them on the website to review throughout the quarter. Some topics were repetitive and kind of common sense, but it was interesting and I still learned a lot. The class is an easy A and very helpful in life.

I have learned so much from Dr.Esdin this quarter. He can be really funny sometimes, which makes lectures even more fun and engaging. LS7C was definitely more content heavy than the other classes in the LS7 series. However; the material is more interesting and applicable. The exams were multiple choice and true/false. Exams are hard as expected and in order to do well, you need to go back to the learning objectives and make sure you can understand/do them after each lecture. I also rewatched all the lectures and went over clicker questions. The last 3 weeks were not as fun as the first weeks, but it is definitely doable. Overall, Dr. Esdin was an awesome professor and you should definitely take LS7C with him if you have the chance.

lolll i took this class cos the reviews all said it was super easy but tbh i feel like it got low key harder with covid. the material wasn't too hard bc the prof is a great guy and he really knows his stuff so he lectured well, but the quizzes really got me. the wording was super detailed and asked us more about like tiny details that i felt were super hard and cost me a lot of points. i was super scared for my grade in this class from the beginning of the quarter bc i didn't know how the quizzes were before we took them, and after i took one and i flopped i really started studying a ton more than i thought this class would require given how the reviews talked about how easy it was. it's def doable if you study and put in the work, i guess i was just taken aback bc it seemed much more challenging than the super positive reviews had talked about it when they took it pre-covid.

prof is super amazing tho, nothing on him lol. he's very kind and you can tell he genuinely cares about like health and stuff which is why he teaches this class. if u need help or idk have questions about the class i'd be glad to talk about it, email at eehsulchia@gmail.com :))

I genuinely loved this class. Dr. Esdin is an engaging and funny instructor, and his lectures reflect that he truly cares about the topics he teaches. The topics you learn about in this class will undoubtedly be applicable to your own life, and Esdin honestly inspired me to take my health more seriously.

Workload was pretty light. Points were divided between attendance quizzes (taken after EVERY lecture), lecture quizzes (biweekly), laboratory quizzes (biweekly), lab participation, a pretty large project, as well as a midterm and final. My TA Alice was very attentive when it came to assisting us with our projects, and Esdin was willing to answer questions about the project too.

The only problem I had with this class was the lack of clarity in some quizzes/exams. A lot of the tests had wording errors that confused students. I didn't run into much trouble in this regard, but it wasn't uncommon that students had to address these kinds issues in Esdin's office hours.

Textbook isn't mandatory but I found it very helpful, especially because some topics weren't covered as extensively in lectures as in the book. Textbook can be a lifesaver when it comes to quizzes. The material is pretty expensive, but I'm glad I got it.

This is a decent class and I'm glad to have gotten my lab requirement out of the way with it. Lectures kind of feel boring/repetitive at times so I often watch them at a faster speed. We have a participation quiz for each lecture which is just a bunch of free points and should be easy if you watched the lecture. The good thing about the participation quizzes too is that they keep you from procrastinating/delaying lectures. The lifestyle project is pretty big but completely do-able, just start early! If you start a week early you should be fine, but keep up with all of the stuff we do in lab. Lab is long but I'd so much rather be in that lab than like a chemistry or physics one. The lecture/lab quizzes are poorly worded so make sure you have good notes.

Esdin is a great professor! Most of you know what the 7 series is like now, and 7C is no different. I did find the content much more interesting than 7A and 7B, and Esdin is also super engaging (and sarcastically funny), even in remote lectures. I actually found Launchpad to be quite useful for this class as it is important to know the basics of all the human body systems before attending the lectures and doing the exams. Definitely take advantage of the pre-class reading worksheets and the CLC worksheets because it helps you center in on what the important takeaways are (the Launchpad can be a bit dense). Midterms and final were all multiple choice and most questions were true/false. It seems they took away the free response that Spring students had. I would definitely take Esdin for 7C. Professor Esdin genuinely cares about his students. This class is awesome. His passion for health bleeds over into his teaching and truly inspires the class to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The quarter long lifestyle project is a lot of work, however, it is fairly interesting and manageable as long as you stay on top of it. The quizzes and exams are occasionally tricky/subjective. That is why it is important to study hard so that you do not second guess yourself. Overall, this course is AMAZING and I would recommend everyone take it.

Professor Esdin has hands down been my favorite professor of the LS7 series. I did not do as well as I had hoped in 7A and 7B, but I was able to do well in 7C because Esdin was such an engaging and interesting lecturer. The tests were difficult (as all 7 series tests are), but I found the material very interesting. 7C probably had the most launchpad out of all the other classes, but I found it to be way more helpful than for any other 7 series class. As long as you understand the cycles that Esdin goes over, you will do great in the class. Also, after each of the midterms, he offered an "exam wrapper" which is basically a mini quiz you can take to get upwards of 8 extra credit points added to your midterm score. This really helped me be less stressed about the grades I received. Overall, I highly recommend taking 7C with Esdin.
