She's a really amazing professor. She actually wants you to learn and I feel in one quarter she managed to improve my writing a lot. There is a lot of work in this class with weekly submissions; however it is worth it and she is also considerably lenient on grading as long as you do your work regularly. Strongly recommend taking this class
I recommend this class. :)
Not only is Mehdizadeh a mediocre English professor at best, but she is also a terrible human being. Extremely unhelpful and, lacks a single compassionate bone in her body I sincerely hope she does not have kids, and if she does I feel extremely bad for them. Class isn't necessarily difficult and the workload isn't excessive but having to see such a condescending professor twice a week takes a toll on you in itself.
Dr. Mehdizadeh was amazing! She was accommodating and always available for writing help. Just be aware that it is a writing II class so you do have short like 400 word journal entries due about twice a week on the readings. This quarter's theme was love and Dr. Mehdizadeh chose a variety of interesting texts that we had to use in a final essay. Would hundred percent recommend taking her!
Good class to take as a first-year for a G.E.. Very similar to high-level high school English classes but Dr. Mehdizadeh is engaging and good enough that it doesn't feel like a total waste of time. You will build good skills for writing that will help you throughout many different classes. The diversity aspect promotes interesting conversations without seeming shoe-horned in or overly forced. The weekly posts can be long, as you often have to read many articles and create lengthy posts. But if you stay on top of it, you should be good and you should have enough time to work on them.
Dr. Mehdizadeh is a great teacher. She is willing to help you and if you follow the instructions and complete all your work putting enough effort, then you should not have much difficulty getting an A in this class. You have two assignments per week which I thought wasn't bad at all but If you are not a strong advocate for social justice, some of the readings might feel boring. I personally don't think I was compatible with her but I still recommend people to take this class because everything was reasonable in terms of difficulty, workload and content.
I took Dr. Mehdizadeh's class in 2015 Fall and received an easy A. I agree her class are challenging, but her topics are interesting. I have one friend that took another Engcomp 3 class and all he did was writing essays about the history of LA. For Dr. Mehdizadeh's class you can write anything that's related to the concept of multi-culture and diversity. This is essentially helpful if you come from a diverse family or culture background. Honestly I don't think the class is that hard, I am an international student and English is not even my native language, yet I manage to get an A. So if you actually work and read, you will be fine. Would recommend this class, professional professor, interesting topic and good class environment.
I love professor Mehdizadeh. She is pretty nice in grading and holding all the in-class discussions. The only problem is that the homework (weekly post) workload is somehow heavy. However, I would say as long as you put enough effort into this class (do all the homework, get engaged...) it is very likely that you can get an easy A.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!! LISTEN TO ME PLEASE. In the summer during my Orientation I picked this class because there was very limited english comp 3 classes and i made a terrible mistake. I did summer school also and i had a 4.0 GPA. I am extremely studious and social and Dr. Mehdizadeh seemed to have really liked me and i liked the class. The class was cool but it is extremely hard and stressful for no reason. If you already enrolled look at the syllabus she will send it really late and trust me ALL the work on there, you will do. This was the class that made me stay up late all nights as i had HW due everyday but the weekends and Tuesday. This quarter i took Math< enthomusicology Jazz and this class with a fiat lux and i received A's in all classes and a C in this one. I never missed an assignment i took all my essays to the writing center etc. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Forget what everyone else says trust me. The class is fun but its fun with consequences. Hope i was able to help.
Dr. Mehdizadeh is a very cool professor i really liked her as a person, but in class, my fellow classmates and I didn't really like it. Dont get me wrong her class is probably the best english class i have been in throughout my life just being a freshman in college, but the workload is RIDICULOUS. It is not the traditional 3 essays then you are done. Her class is set up with a lot of readings that require annotations to show that you actually did it and each reading you have to give a summary etc. This class was a little stressful, but it was the only class i didn't fall asleep in all quarter. All her essays revolve around you and your input, which i loved about the class. We had 5 blogs due every friday, and the final project is worth 40% of the grade. The class is definitely doable but you gotta work for it. I did everything like EVERYTHING last second (even the final that was do yesterday) and still managed to scrape A's here and there. So take the class if it seems interesting but know that it is alot of work. She is a great proffessor!
